The south intervention is principally focussed to cater to the needs of the tourists and other visitors. It showcases a permanent market space, a food joint, a yoga garden, playarea, gymnasium, and a walking track. The market space is accessible to the public at all times. The space is intended to provide a permanent space for the relocated hawkers and other sellers in the present street market. The food stalls are to promote the activities around the lake in the evenings when people come back home after and want to have a fun time. The playarea is for the younglings to keep them engaged while their parents

DESIGN BRIEF

02 URBAN DESIGN STUDIO Lake Front Development INTRODUCTION14

The Chikkabanavara Lake and its purlieu is set in the semiurban context in the outskirts of Bangalore City. The site has potential to develop in a rapid scale due to the emergence of many institutions in its vicinity. This proposal focuses on sustainability framework, along with the development of the lake. The sustainability is acheived through the utilization of recycled plastic, provision of bioswales, solar lighting, pevious pavements etc.

The north intervention is predominantly related to the landscaping and preserving the nature around. It focuses on the ecological aspect of the biological existents. It provides a large expanse of space for the migratory birds, along with attending to the humanscape. There is a provision of a walking track and the elevated garden space in this intervention. This is to improve the involvement of the youth in these public spaces. The skating park is mainly for the local population to embrace new forms of activities, it is aimed mostly at the existing migrant population present due to the presence of various educational institutions.

03 SOCIO CULTURAL CENTER Shettihalli Church, Hassan 18 Shettihalli Church is well known as the Submerged Church, and it is also a historical site. I would like to preserve the ruins of the church and at the same time bring in the essence of that site by redesigning the surroundings of the church, keeping the church to our advantage to attract tourists and generate income by creating a socio-cultural centre that brings in economy, tourist attraction, gathering space, multi-functional spaces, co-working spaces, exhibition spaces, a library, and accommodation spaces with a night camping area. The project works all 365 days a year, considering the seasonal changes that happen on the site during the monsoon season. By providing dikes, the water that floats during the monsoon season will be avoided.

CafeteriaBlock Cafeteria

TheseDesignacademic blocks were created on the sloping contours of the site, which gives us more tarraces and better views from the site. The whole site was divided into public and semipublic spaces, and the academic blocks were considered the semi-public areas, while the auditorium, library, cafeteria, administration, etc. were considered public spaces.

The Music Block is also designed on a slopy side of the site where the building can be accessed on two levels with a connection between two spaces. It has a huge terrace with a skylight above the staircase. The building projects towards the entrance of the lower level, which acts as a chajja from below. It also has projecting balconies that act as chill out spaces for every classroom.

The cafeteria acts as a common space between the academic blocks and the public spaces. It’s kept semi-open so it gets better views and blends with the outdoors. It is placed on the sloping land and designed according to that slope.  The administration block is designed on the highest contour and is near the common focal point (node). It has an open courtyard in the centre and a skylight. This makes it much better than just a room.  The library has three floors and is the highest building in the complex. It is designed to get all the northern light rushing in through the building.Administration

04 CAMPUS DESIGN Sandynulla Lake, HPF Hills, Ooty, Tamil Nadu 20

ThisIntroductioncampus design project was proposed for a 20-acre area on the banks of Ooty’s Sandynulla Lake. The place appears to have hilly terrain. mixed with a forest of overgrown vegetation. The placement of the blocks in the layout is very organic and along the slopes. It has also been proposed to have solar panels on the flat roofs. These features help in making the campus self-sufficient as per the minor project. The project was to understand the site’s surrounding context and design a campus according to the site and its surroundings. There are five different academic blocks designed with a sports complex, an auditorium, a library, and a public plaza with a cafeteria.
