ABOUT M E I am a third - year undergraduate student at School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada. Growing up I’ve been exposed to an amalgamtion of cultures which has played a major role in the development of my interest in architecture. Upon persuing architecture I have realized that I have a fascination towards architecture that is a fusion of traditional and modern sensibilities. As someone who is a voracious reader, I have a deep well of imagination which also plays a major role in my designing. ||2||

The site is located in the small town Busaiteen in the nothern district of Muharraq City.

The entry to the site is given along the primary road adjoining the site.

Vegetation and Open spaces are located towards the East and North West sides to avoid heat gain and block dust from on coming winds

A water body is introduced in the open space to combat the dry climate by providing moisture.

Artisan’s workshops and Souq market are located at the back of the site, away from the road, for more privacy.

The much larger museum block is placed in the front of the site for grabbing attention of the viewers and for shading the open spaces and other blocks.

FORM DEVELOPM ENT

Compact square mass is taken considering the harsh dry climatic condition.

The volume is doubled to increase the scale of the mass, simliar to the large forms commonly found in islamic architecture.

Buffer spaces are integrated on both levels to avoid direct heat gain.

Arcade of arches in the style of traditional arabic arches.

False dome as symbolic representation of a vault to heaven. Traditional mashrabiya reinterpreted as a viewing balcony.

Render of the Viewing Balcony on the First Floor of the Museum.

The fusion of a traditional mashrabiya and a balcony is used to create a visually complex place that plays with light and shadow. This space also acts as a buffer and prevents the building from getting direct heat gain. The mashrabiya aids in ventilation by enhancing the venturi effect. ||14||

The walls have been arranged in a zig zag pattern to allow the viewers to have dynamic experience. The design subconciously evokes the image of a traditional arabic arch. ||15||

A simple rectangular mass, oriented on the site with the longer side facing north.

To utilise the winds for ventilation the north west corner of the house is utilized as an open living room by adapting brick jaalis.

A smaller rectangle is offset and subtracted from the mass to form a void, which functions as a courtyard.

Similarly another void of a smaller scale is introduced, its primarly function being a lightwell for the staircase.

The perforated brick screen is introduced to keep the interiors cool. Visually this creates dynamic patterns of shadow and light.

The volume is doubled to accomadate other spaces.

A wrap around balcony is integrated The space below the balcony acts as along the top floor to maximise a chuttu verandah views.

Finally a sloped roof structure with a void for the courtyard’s skylight is placed.
