WPreface
elcome to DAWN, our comprehensive series for Early Childhood Education that has been meticulously crafted to align with the guidelines of the Foundational Stage as outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This series is designed to provide a holistic learning experience, fostering the comprehensive development of young learners in accordance with the developmental milestones and learning outcomes specified in the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2022.
DAWN offers a rich blend of interactive and activity-based content to nurture each child's physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth. Our approach ensures that learning is enjoyable and meaningful, catering to every child's interests and abilities. By integrating various domains of development, we aim to create an environment where children can thrive, explore their unique potential and cultivate a lifelong love for learning.
The curriculum is structured to promote Physical Development by incorporating activities that enhance motor skills, health, and overall physical well-being. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a critical component focussing on building empathy, cooperation, and strong interpersonal relationships. Through engaging and thought-provoking activities, children develop Intellectual Capacities, fostering critical thinking, problemsolving, and a curious mind.
In line with the NCF 2022, DAWN also emphasises Spiritual and Moral Development, encouraging children to understand and embody values such as honesty, integrity, and respect for others. We aim to instill a sense of responsibility towards the environment, promoting sustainable practices from an early age.
Our curriculum is not just a series of lessons but a journey of discovery, growth, and joy. We believe that every child is unique, and our tailored approach ensures that each learner can engage with the content in a way that resonates with their individual needs and interests. By providing a nurturing and stimulating environment, DAWN sets the foundation for future success, preparing children not just for school, but for life.

Alignment between the Skillbook and the Reader
This book has been designed to build and practise the reading skills of young learners while tapping into a phonics-based approach. It has been carefully crafted based on various considerations. Firstly, the texts are designed and structured to ensure an upward progression of decoding complexity. Secondly, there is a topic level alignment with the Literacy Skillbook. Thirdly, key curricular components like decoding, theme-based vocabulary, functional grammar, sentence construction and sight words are dovetailed between the two books.
Why the Reader?
The NCF 2022 and NEP 2020 stress the need to build foundational reading fluency as the curricular load continues to grow significantly in subsequent years. A deficit in early decoding and comprehension skills widens the learning gap and the backlog grows from year to year. Considering this urgent need to give young learners a strong foundation in reading,
Musk Sees a Bird Mu
fun. He sits down to re
. He lifts his head and sees a bird in a nest . ‘Shh...No noise,’ he says to his colt
Progression of Texts
a specific intervention is required to ensure that they have a head start and are fully school-ready.
The Reader starts with simple texts and progresses towards more complex ones. This promotes decoding and encourages broader reading skills. For instance, the first few texts are short and simple, and are composed mostly of CVC words and common sight words. As we move along, the texts not only include blends, digraphs and longer vowel sounds, but also exhibit more refined grammatical structures. This progressive strategy instils reading confidence in learners.
How to Use the Reader?
Step 1: Initiate a topic using the Literacy Skillbook.
Step 2: Practise the concepts using the activities in the Skillbook and additional exercises in the Workbook.
Step 3: Support the learners to decode and read the text of the same curricular theme provided in the Reader.
Step 4: Encourage learners to gradually start reading the text independently.
Feel free to revisit the texts read previously. Further topic-level suggestions and activities can be found in the Teacher Manual.
