The Old Woman in a Vinegar Bottle
A grumpy old woman lived in a tiny little house. She grumbled loudly.
Humph, Humph, Fee. This is not good enough for me!
A fairy felt sorry for her. She waved her wand and suddenly the old woman was in a pretty cottage. The old woman was not happy.
The birds are too noisy! Humph, Humph, Fee. This is not good enough for me!
12
The fairy tried again. She gave the old woman a beautiful house in a city. But, the old woman was not happy.
There are too many cars here! Humph, Humph, Fee. This is not good enough for me!
So, the fairy gave her a castle in the forest. The old woman was still not happy.
How will I clean this big place? Humph, Humph, Fee. This does not work for me!
13
The fairy was tired of the old woman’s grumbling.
“Well, if you want something small to clean, I will put you in a vinegar bottle.”
So, that is how the woman had to live. Now, she only had a tiny bed, a little mat, an old stove and a grumpy cat! Sight Words: a, old, she, the, not, good, for, me, to 14

Oops! Before Mama went out, she asked Uma and Sai to feed the pets.
Buddy gets the dogfood in the blue bag. Kitty eats fish from the small packet and Pete gets the parrot seeds in the green bag.
81
Uma put the cat food into a bowl. She put Buddy’s food in another bowl. Sai filled the parrot’s bowl.
82
But Buddy gobbled up Kitty’s food and then his own! He wagged his tail for more. Kitty sat in the window looking angry! “Oops! What will we do now? That was the last packet of cat food!”
83
“Kitty, would you like some dog food? asked Sai. He gave her a bowl. Kitty looked even angrier. Just then, Buddy jumped up and spilled the parrot food all over the floor. “Squawk,” said Pete.
84
Mama came in and looked at the mess. “What happened here?” she asked. “Oops!” said Uma and Sai pointing at Buddy.

Tenali and the Priest One day, Tenali wanted to teach a rude priest a lesson. He told the priest that if he would carry Tenali on his shoulders, Tenali would also carry him, and for a longer way.
87
So, they walked through the streets with Tenali sitting on the priest’s shoulders. Everyone laughed and pointed at them.
88
From his window, the king saw them. He asked, “Why is an important man carrying someone on his shoulders? He called his soldiers and said, “Arrest the man who is riding on the shoulders of another man!”
89
Tenali saw the king and knew he would be angry. So he said to the priest, “Now it is my turn to carry you.” When the soldiers came, they arrested the priest.
90
The priest realised that Tenali had taught him a lesson for being rude to everyone.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess named Snow White. Her stepmother, the Queen, wanted to be the most beautiful woman in the world. When the Queen’s magic mirror told her that Snow White was the prettiest, her stepmother was very angry.
93
The Queen told a hunter to take Snow White far away and leave her in the forest. That night, Snow White found a tiny cottage with seven dwarfs. They asked her to stay. Snow White was very happy, and they became great friends.
94
The queen’s mirror kept on saying that Snow White was prettier than the Queen. So, she dressed like an old woman and went to find Snow White. She gave Snow White an apple that was poisoned.
95
Snow White took one bite and fell into a deep sleep. The dwarfs were very sad, and they put her in a glass box. They kept her safe and hoped that she would wake up.
96

The Ugly Duckling Once upon a time, there was a duckling who looked very different from his brothers and sisters. They were yellow, but he was grey. They laughed at him and called him ugly.
99
The duckling swam on his own, feeling sad and lonely. He asked a frog, “Why are my feathers so dull?” “Why am I so big?” The frog just croaked. QUAAAK.
100
The duckling grew and grew. Now he was much bigger than his brothers and sisters. He was white and had a long neck. He looked at himself in the pond and said, “Now I am even uglier!”
101
A big white bird flew down and landed in the pond. The bird looked just like him! It could fly! “What kind of bird are you?” asked the duckling? “I am a swan, just like you,” said the bird, “Come and fly with me.”
102
He spread his wings once, twice, three times. He landed in the water. “You just need to try,” said the swan. Soon he was flying, and he and his friend flew away. He was not an ugly duckling. He was a beautiful swan!
