WELCOME
Dr Peter Brothers CHIEF EXECUTIVE
A warm welcome to you all as we celebrate the achievements of graduates of Manukau Institute of Technology. MIT is privileged to help develop people whose skills, knowledge and attributes will benefit New Zealand now and into the future. We are committed to making tertiary study accessible to everyone wanting to learn. This commitment lies at the heart of how MIT operates and we firmly believe the quality of education a student receives here is overwhelmingly his or her best investment for the future. This surely is part of what we mean when we talk about the transformational potential of education, both for the individual and for their capacity to contribute to wider society. Graduation marks the culmination of months and in many cases, years, of hard work. It is a time to celebrate what has been achieved, and focus on what is to come. During MIT’s graduation events we will celebrate the accomplishments of 1,172 graduates; 560 with Degrees and 531 with Diplomas, and 81 completing Post-graduate studies. Additionally, at specific departmental functions we have celebrated the presentation of a further 3,392 certificates and other awards. Over 4,564 students will be recognised for their mastery of learning in this past year – a wonderful milestone for all concerned. MIT’s graduates do not arrive at this point alone. Family, friends and community leaders also contribute significantly to the educational journey our 2013 graduates experience during their time studying at MIT. Today’s celebrations are also recognition of the part you have played in our students’ success. To all graduating from MIT today, congratulations. In many ways, the confirmation of your degree or diploma marks the beginning of your education. Learning is a lifelong experience, and Manukau Institute of Technology will always be here to help you on your path. Congratulations to you all and best wishes for your futures.
