What Holiday Giveaways / Promos do you use for the holidays to help drive engagement?
One of the things we have found most successful during the holidays is having a sale starting in early December through our social media. We offer a 10–15% discount on orders placed early during the sale to be delivered at a later date for the holidays. Not only does this help increase order volume, but it helps us forecast and plan for our holiday deliveries.
Another simple giveaway we have found beneficial is creating a social media campaign starting in early December to give people the chance to win a $100 gift certificate. This has helped with our engagement on social media. You also want to ensure that you’re promoting your specialty holiday designs on your website early enough in December to get people in the mindset of holiday gifting!
Are there any holiday-themed add-ons that you have found successful in increasing order value?
We have found that customers like specialty holiday add-ons like wine, candles, cardinal doves, and premium flower upgrades. When it comes to holiday order value, being efficient is just as important. When you create your in-house designs make sure there are options to cover each person’s price point and design preference. That being said, don’t go overboard! Mass producing and limiting your offerings will allow you to produce more arrangements in a shorter period. It will also allow you to use the same varieties across multiple designs, allowing you to purchase fewer varieties at higher volumes and save money!

What Holiday Giveaways / Promos do you use for the holidays to help drive engagement?
We have found that interactive promotions geared toward families have worked well. For example, building a holiday bouquet or tree for children during the holiday season is a great option! Have the a la carte florals ready to go with festive containers and offer some assistance and tips. Not only is this fun for the whole family but a great alternative to a traditional open house!

THAT’S AMORE GORDON BONETTI GIVES BACK
Gordon Bonetti Florist has been a staple in the Connecticut floral scene for over 100 years, since the 1890s. The shop started by growing and selling flowers in Hartford, CT, before expanding into the suburb of Wethersfield, in the mid-1970s. In 1984, John Tornatore and his daughter, Jennifer Zolkowiecz, took over. Their combined passion for marketing, design, and community has left no doubt about why the shop has established long-standing success.
“The best part of owning a flower shop is working in the local community, networking, and getting to know people,” Jennifer said. “We are very involved in the Italian community, doing flowers for weddings and traditional funerals.”
John is the President of an organization called the Sons of Italy, where Jennifer leads floral design classes. The organization is known for putting on dinner dances to support scholarships and charity. The group helps the local hospital by sending pasta dinners to its patients.
Jennifer has given back to the floral community by being Teleflora’s Unit President of the Catskill Mountains region for almost 20 years. Her goal has been to continue the upward trajectory of the Unit, to see it progress, and to be a part of the camaraderie of flower shops in the area. Several years ago, Jennifer won the President’s Scholarship, where she was able to prepare for the PFDE Test with Tim Farrell, working with him as a feature designer.
However, Unit President isn’t the only Presidential honor that Gordon Bonetti Florist has received.
“Over the years, I was lucky enough to meet mayors, governors, and presidents. I have been honored to do floral work for every President from Ronald Reagan to Bill Clinton to George W. Bush, and I have done work on five Connecticut Governor’s inaugural balls. This involved gaining clearance from numerous agencies, including the Secret Service,” John reminisced fondly.
Since gaining Secret Service clearance, John and Jennifer have also provided the stage setup for the 1996 Presidential Debate, which was held in Hartford, CT.
It’s no surprise that the shop was chosen for these major events, John and Jennifer have been recognized for their success by winning the Connecticut Florists Marketing Award, as well as the Connecticut Florist of the Year in 2012. To keep their shop at the top of customers’ minds, they offer some special promotions around the winter holidays. For Thanksgiving, if a customer orders a centerpiece, they offer a free frozen pie. For Christmas, if the order comes in early, they offer free delivery.
Through it all, Gordon Bonetti Florist has been a part of the Teleflora network for 64 years, and John and Jennifer have helped their shop climb its way into Teleflora’s President’s Club. For John, the Teleflora difference is having the best POS system around, RTI. Jennifer believes that the difference is having the best product in the business, including her favorite Fall and Christmas arrangements, from pumpkins to the yearly Thomas Kinkade collection.
John and Jennifer work together as a dynamic duo with different tastes and strengths. For close to 30 years, they have led a powerful team that drives Gordon Bonetti Florist toward continued success every day.
HOW TO REACH THE RIGHT CUSTOMERS ON SOCIAL USING PAID MEDIA!
Connecting with consumers these days is hard, especially during the holidays. There’s a lot of advertising out there, especially on social media, so it can be challenging to figure out how to make your message stand out.
We’re here to help! Here are four easy steps that will show you how to reach new, relevant customers while driving your business! For the steps below, we'll focus on Facebook and Instagram as our primary social channels.
STEP 1: ACCESSING ADS MANAGER
Assuming that you have set up your social profiles as Business Accounts on Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, then you should be able to access Ads Manager through the left hand menu.
STEP 2: CREATE A CAMPAIGN
Creating a Campaign in Ads Manager allows you to focus on a few key things:
Setting up your campaign objective: Awareness, engagement, etc.
Targeting your audience: Reach the most relevant customers
Budget: How much your advertising budget will help you achieve
Once you are working in Ads Manager, underneath Campaign, click the green create button and this pop-up will appear.
Select your buying type:
Auction allows the Meta system to automatically adjust spending based on performance.
Reservation allows you to have a set cost per impression that will remain at the set cost. Meta's system will not automatically optimize spending.
We recommend using Auction so that the system optimizes spending on your behalf.
Choose your campaign objective. Determine what your goal is. For example, if you want to reach new customers, then awareness should be your goal. If you want people to engage with you, engagement should be your goal.
Follow the steps for the campaign setup. Meta provides quick descriptions along the way to help you navigate based on your needs.
BUDGETS:
Daily budgets: Allows you to cap your budget each day
Lifetime budget: You set the overall campaign budget and the system will optimize spending (based on performance) over the number of days you set for the campaign.
SETTING DATES:
We recommend running campaigns in short bursts between 1–5 days per campaign. This allows the spending to ramp up quickly to drive engagement and spur the algorithm.
SCHEDULING TIMES:
Scheduling times impact engagement, so target the launch for when people are most active, such as mornings and evenings.
STEP 3: CREATE AN AUDIENCE
Creating an audience is one of the most important steps in paid advertising. It allows you to hone in on the right audience for your business while removing consumers unlikely to convert to purchasers.
Click “See audience controls in your ad account settings” under Audience controls. Review the settings to ensure that they are right for you.
REVIEW ALL PARAMETERS AND DEFINE YOUR AUDIENCE:
Age: Narrow down your age groups. It’s too expensive to try and reach everyone.
Location: Narrow down your location to your delivery radius.
Interests: Interests play a key role in reaching relevant, new customers (e.g. flower lovers, Valentine’s Day, Christmas).
STEP 4: PREPARE FOR LAUNCH!
You’re almost there! Check your campaign details and gear up for the launch of your campaign!
CHOOSE YOUR AD
FORMAT/SETUP:
Under “Ad Creative”, click Select Post and choose the post you want to boost.
REVIEW, AND THEN LAUNCH YOUR PAID CAMPAIGN!
