EDUCATION 11 Spanish Sojourns: Robert Henri and the Spirit of Spain Spanish Sojourns took more than five years to develop and was inspired by one of the most beloved paintings in Telfair’s collection, La Madrileñita. The exhibition was accompanied by a fully illustrated hardcover catalogue that presented new scholarship on Henri and placed his work in the context of other American artists, architects and writers who were inspired by Spain in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Related educational programs included a four-part evening lecture series by the key scholars and curators involved in the exhibition and accompanying catalogue.

Free Family Day In spring of 2013, Free Family Day became a monthly event due to generous funding from the City of Savannah Department of Cultural Affairs, the Georgia Power Foundation, Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation and the AGL Resources Foundation. Family Days are fun, educational and free! Visitors have the opportunity to enjoy hands-on art projects, gallery exploration activities, story time, and they are designed to engage the whole family.

PULSE Art + Technology Festival PULSE is a wildly inventive, interactive technology-based art festival. This free event allowed the public to participate in amazing interactive art experiences and hands-on workshops. Avant-garde visual artists from around the country presented electrifying performances and gave lectures that taught and illustrated new art forms. PULSE partnered with Armstrong Atlantic State University, the Savannah College of Art and Design, Indigo Sky Gallery, the Creative Coast and the Savannah Chatham County Public Schools’ STEM Academy to create offsite workshops and programs.

2014–2015 NEW TRUSTEES 21 Sylvia Sparkman Coker is a native

of Savannah and a graduate of Savannah Country Day School. She and her husband, Charles, lived in Hartsville, South Carolina for 17 years before moving to Bluffton four years ago. Sylvia is actively involved with the Davenport House Committee, the Trustees Garden Club, and the Bethesda Women’s Board. She serves on the Visitors Board of Savannah Country Day and is a grant-writing volunteer for the Beaufort/Jasper Volunteers in Medicine. Sylvia received her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and her graduate degree in secondary education from the University of Virginia. Recognizing the need for a strong educational alternative in the Hartsville area, she was a founding board member of Trinity Collegiate School and was Board Chair of Thomas Hart Academy. She also served on the Boards of the Hartsville Community Concert Association, the Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County, and the Merrie-Woode Foundation in Cashiers, NC.

Sylvia and Charles have four daughters. Sylvia serves on the Flower Guild at The Church of the Cross in Bluffton.

Dale C. Critz, Jr. is a native of

Savannah and has served as President of Critz, Inc. since 2007. He is the President and Treasurer of the Georgia/South Carolina GMC and Buick Ad Group, and is active in the community. Dale served on Telfair’s Board 2001-2004, and has served The United Way of the Coastal Empire in numerous roles, including Board Chair in 2010. As Chair of the Savannah Community Foundation, Dale established a permanent Investment Committee, and at the YMCA of the Coastal Empire, he coached both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. He graduated from Leadership Savannah in 1992. Dale also is a member of the Coastal Conservation Association, Georgia Historical Society, Historic Savannah Foundation, International Game and Fish Association, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Dale graduated cum laude with a B.A. in English from the University of Virginia, and received his M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Texas. He and his wife, Debbie, have four children.

Kay A. Ford

is a native of Savannah and serves as President and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Savannah and as Managing Director of the Private Wealth Management Department. Kay entered her current role in 2007. A 35-year veteran of SunTrust, she has held numerous senior level positions within retail banking and private wealth management, including working as Senior Vice President of Private Wealth Management. She graduated from Leadership Savannah and Leadership Georgia in 1990 and 1997, respectively. Kay currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Memorial University Medical Center. She is a member of the Finance Committee for the Catholic Diocese and a member of the State Board of the Department of Early Child Care and Learning. Kay also has served on the Boards of Directors of the United Way, the Memorial Health Foundation, the Savannah Fund for Excellence in Education, and St. Mary’s Home.

2014–2015 NEW TRUSTEES Ted J. Kleisner is a third

generation hotelier from Chicago. He and his wife of 42 years, Karen, reside in Savannah. He is the retired Chairman, President and CEO of Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company (HE&R), which employs 9000 full-time and part-time employees. Ted also served as a nonexecutive and executive member of the HE&R Board of Directors. During his career, Ted worked with Hilton Hotels Corporation, the Southampton Princess in Bermuda, and the Boca Raton Resort and Club before serving as President and CEO of The Greenbrier Resort and Club Management Company. While providing strategic leadership, management oversight, and direction to all Greenbrier properties, Ted also had 10 years of oversight responsibility for the top-secret federal government nuclear bomb shelter constructed beneath The Greenbrier. Ted currently serves on First Energy’s Board of Directors, the board’s Nuclear Committee, and its Management Compensation Committee. He received his B.S. in business administration from the University of Denver and serves on the Executive Advisory Board of the University’s Daniels College of Business. He is an emeritus member of the Board of Trustees of The Culinary Institute of America. Ted is a lector at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, and is a member of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland. He and Karen have two children and five grandchildren.

Swann Seiler is a

native of Savannah and serves as Manager of Corporate Support and Communications for Georgia Power’s Coastal Region. Swann began her career in New Jersey with Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation and worked in public relations for Lytton Industries. She joined Savannah Electric in 1982 and worked as Manager of Corporate Communications until its merger into Georgia Power in 2006. She graduated from Leadership Savannah and Leadership Georgia in 1984 and 1991, respectively. Active in numerous community and civic activities, Swann serves on the board of the 200 Club of the Coastal Empire and the board of Bethesda Academy. She is the chairman of the Savannah Sports Council and serves on the Georgia Humanities Council. She is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Georgia Women of Achievement, which honors extraordinary women in Georgia’s history. She is a past member of the Board of Curators for the Georgia Historical Society and is a member of the Rotary Club of Savannah. A graduate of the Henry W. Grady School of Journalism, Swann serves on its Grady Board of Trust. She served as the first woman president of the University of Georgia National Alumni Association and currently is on the UGA Athletic Association Board of Directors and Executive Committee and on the University of Georgia’s Library Board of Visitors, as well as the University of Georgia Foundation.

Huguenin (“Hue”) Thomas III is

a native of Savannah. Hue is the retired Vice President of Corporate Relations for Owens and Minor. Based in Virginia, Owens and Minor, Inc. is a Fortune 500 company that was named to Fortune magazine’s “2014 World’s Most Admired Companies” list in March.

Hue and his wife, noted artist Fran Thomas, returned to Savannah in 2003 and served as the first co-chairs of Telfair Museums’ Gari Melchers Collectors’ Society, 2008-2013. Hue serves on the Board of the Rotary Club of Savannah (Downtown) and is the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Senior Citizens, Inc. He currently is a member of the Davenport House Endowment Committee after serving two terms as a Board member for the Historic Savannah Foundation. Hue received his B.S. in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech. He and Fran have two children and two grandchildren.
