SUMMER thrill seeker
• Via Ferrata: Telluride's "iron road" suspends you 200+ feet above the floor of the box canyon with amazing views. • Mountain Bike: ride Lizard Head Pass to Durango & relax in the Hot Springs (104 miles). • Hikes: (need to be fit) up Bear Creek & over Wasatch, into La Junta basin, over a cliff band and back (guided). Sheridan Crosscut Trail - up, up, up into Liberty Bell Basin, down to Tomboy Road, showcasing some of the best panoramic views Telluride has to offer.
family friendly
• Hikes: (need to be reasonably fit) Clays Way - the mirror image of the Jud Weibe Trail, but with less traffic and better views, from town clockwise over to Tomboy Road and down Tomboy. Bear Creek Trail - straight forward, yet spectacular - ending in a set of waterfalls and a great view of Telluride. • Via Ferrata: an extraordinary thrill perched 200+ feet cliffside, a guided family feat never to be forgotten. • Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks: one of the best small town celebrations, reminiscent of yesteryear with a signature "boom" that is always followed with oohs and aahs. • Glider Ride: a truly unique & soaring vantage point to consume the visual beauty of Telluride and the surrounding mountains. • Mountain Bike: ride the historic Galloping Goose Trail from Ophir to the Ilium Valley. This is merely a list of recommendations, activities should be further researched to assure they are age appropriate and fitness level compliant.

A “Long Haulers” Perspective
GROWING UP Te l l u r i d e
PEOPLE AND PLACES
a personal account by
Xa nt he Dema s
My story is similar to many other Telluride “Long Haulers”; kids that were fortunate enough to be born, raised and schooled in one of the most beautiful places on earth. You must complete all 13 years of your schooling here in Telluride to earn the title of Long-Hauler. When you think about it… that is indeed a long haul, but now that I am looking back, I realize how fast it flew by. Telluride’s “Long-Haulers” have grown up to be successful educators, scientists, business people, philanthropists, world travelers, moviemakers, moms, dads and YES, even Olympic athletes.
My own life’s journey started on January 25, 1993. After a rather arduous entry into the world, I spent the first few years of my infant and toddler existence at the base of Lift 8 where my parents and I lived at the River Watch Condominiums. Believe it or not, my first memory was not of my mom or dad’s voice, rather the high-pitched beeping of snow cats grooming the ski trails on Kids Hill just above my house. It was a sound I fell asleep to every winter night. Skiing soon became a part of my everyday life. Gliding over the Boomerang Trail to the Alta Lakes Observatory and zooming down Bushwacker, warm and cozy in a backpack on my dad’s back (before such activity was outlawed) was an everyday occurrence. With the wind in my face and a smile on my lips, I was hooked – still am hooked! My dad’s recollection was that I could ski before I could walk; which makes total sense because I fall far more often walking down the street than I do on skis. The first structured activity in my life was attending Rainbow Pre-school
where I romped, played and sang my way through my early years. Rainbow is where I met many of my best friends - most of whom stood next to me on stage at high school graduation. My Rainbow teachers (Sally, Rusty & Flair) are as crystal clear in my memory as some of my recent college professors. As Rainbow students, we all participated in the Comets Ski program which put us on the snow two days a week for ski lessons throughout the winter months. We’d arrive at Rainbow on our ski days all bundled up and ready to brave the cold. Our parents would stuff our skis and poles into the big red laundry bags hanging from the white picket fence in front of the pre-school, and somehow when we arrived at the bottom of lift 8, our skis were there waiting for us. Were there tantrums?? You bet, especially on days when the temperature dipped below 10°, but for the most part, we toughed it out. Then came Kindergarten and elementary school in the old brick building on Columbia Avenue where the teachers
and staff were as kind and welcoming as could be. It was here that I began my love of theater and singing, landing my first breakthrough role in the 5th grade performance of Romeo and Juliet. I continued to act and sing throughout my childhood, eventually falling under the extraordinary guidance of Jen Julia and the Sheridan Opera House’s Young People’s Theater, a program that gives every student the chance to be a star! When I was six, I got my first taste of organized ski training in the Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club. I started in the Alpine Program - fulfilling my early need for speed. A few years later, I transitioned to the freestyle team and began mogul skiing. As the years marched on, the training and commitment became more intense. Weekends were spent on the road competing. Summers and after-school hours were for dryland training and workouts resulting in a diminished social life and ever-present sore limbs… but I loved it! In my early teens, as my skiing became more serious and competitions tough-

er, many of my girlfriends moved on to other sports and interests, but the mountains continued to call me and I stuck with the thing I loved the most. I eventually transitioned from freestyle to Big Mountain Skiing, where under the instruction of Chason Russell, I found the height and depth of my skiing abilities. It was free skiing with no boundaries. I was in heaven. All of those hours of training, early morning wake up calls, weekends on the road with a team of all boys finally paid off in Taos, New Mexico where I was number one on the podium in the Junior National Free Skiing National Championship, two years in a row. Throughout my childhood, as my winter ski life unfolded, my parents made sure my younger brother Sam and I were equally active in other pursuits. We both played soccer, hockey and spent countless days hiking and exploring together. When I was twelve, I conquered two fourteen thousand foot peaks (Wilson Peak and Mount Sneffels). My goal is to someday soon hike all of Colorado’s fourteeners. Another tradition that began at a very early age, were family trips to the desert in our VW Camper. Living on the edge of the San Juan’s, it was an easy downhill trek to lower elevations, bizarre landscapes and warmer temperatures. Most spring break vacations early on were spent in places like Goblin Valley, Canyonlands, Zion, Arches and Lake Powell. Summer months were spent visiting family in Rye, New Hampshire where I learned the artful skill of bridge jumping – a skill I continued to perfect from the red rock cliffs of Colorado’s river canyons. Telluride Academy camps were also a major part of every summer. I think I enrolled in every one offered over the course of my childhood; mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking and exploring all of the National Parks, rivers and high deserts that our incredible backyard has to offer.
PEOPLE AND PLACES
(Telluride "Long Haulers", class of 2011.)
Exploring and adventuring had become second nature to me, so when it came time to choose a University, I took a big leap and landed on the coast of Maine at Bowdoin College. The education I received there was challenging, yet incredibly fulfilling. I graduated in May 2015 with a double major in Psychology and Visual Arts. As I reflect back on my college experience, it’s only now I recognize, succeeding at an institution like Bowdoin would not have been possible without the first-rate education I received here in Telluride; an education that prepared me for the rigors of college and life. Although I am certain the relationships I formed while in college will remain the most important of my life, as my college career came to an end, I missed my mountains. I returned to Telluride after graduation and while searching for a full time
job, worked as a Field Instructor for Telluride Academy, inspiring kids just like I was inspired so many years before. With the guidance and assistance of my many mentors in Telluride, I landed my dream job at Backbone Media in Carbondale, a public relations and marketing firm. I spend my weekends coaching a posse of eight to twelve year-old rippers from Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club. I work seven days a week and love every minute of my life in the mountains. Still, Telluride is beckoning and I already have my next two road trips planned - the first for closing weekend of the ski season (it was awesome!) and the second for the Annual Bluegrass Festival.

TOWN OF TELLURIDE AREAS
Nestled in a box canyon surrounded by the majestic, 13,000+ft peaks of the San Juan Mountains, the over a century-old Town of Telluride is filled with colorful legends and Rocky Mountain spirit. Just six blocks wide and twelve blocks long, the National Historic District is a window into the town’s illustrious past with its colorful Victorian homes, clapboard storefronts, boutiques, art galleries, bookstores, and gourmet restaurants. The backdrop of this historic town is Telluride’s world class ski resort, featuring a gondola that provides free transportation between Telluride and Mountain Village for skiers & pedestrians alike. A year-round paradise, summers in Telluride are highlighted by such renowned festivals as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Telluride Film Festival, and Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, just to name a few.
Gondola Corridor The gondola corridor is located in the heart of Telluride’s historic district and offers a nice mixture of Victorian-style homes, modern condos, and a few select hotel properties. This neighborhood affords easy ski access and proximity to downtown Telluride restaurants, shopping and nightlife, as well as the complimentary Telluride gondola. West End - Lift 7 Area The greatest concentration of Telluride condos are located here next to Lift 7 and along the San Miguel River, presenting reasonable price points coupled with convenient ski access. Zoned for short term rentals, this area allows owners to recoup some investment costs when they aren't using their property. East End On the sunny side of town, this family-friendly neighborhood is closest to Town Park, where all the signature Telluride music festivals are held. Many of the residences enjoy iconic views of Bear Creek and the Box Canyon in a refined residential setting. Just Outside of Town Idarado Legacy is an exclusive, private community just a few minutes east of downtown Telluride and offers some of the most dramatic views in the area. Heading west out of Telluride; Eider Creek, Hillside, & Lawson Hill offer more affordable real estate opportunities, including deed-restricted options.

DOWN VALLEY & OUTSIDE AREAS
Aptly nicknamed the "Banana Belt", the Down Valley area follows the river canyon west down Highway 145. Sited amongst magnificent red rock cliff bands and along the winding banks of the San Miguel River, the Down Valley areas of Sawpit, Placerville, & Fall Creek enjoy fairer weather from an almost 1,200ft drop in elevation. Resplendent with unique charm and character, the outlying communities that make up the Telluride region have a personality all their own. These amiable towns offer an alternative to the hustle and bustle of Telluride. While these communities present more budget friendly real estate options than Telluride – they still feature beautiful mountain views, convenient river access, newly constructed homes and sprawling ranches.

JOSH RAPAPORT, Broker Growing up on the water in Connecticut, Josh had a passion for boats. His first business maintaining boats he started at the age of 14 and then progressed to managing the largest marina on Martha's Vineyard soon after graduating from Colgate. KIKI FROBERG, Broker Kiki is a native of Western Michigan and Chicago suburbs. She received an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Illinois and an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Michigan State University. Kiki worked in corporate finance before settling in Telluride: Ford Motor Company in Dearborn and Detroit, MI; AlliedSignal/Honeywell in Kansas City, New Jersey, and briefly, Phoenix; Six Flags theme parks at their New Jersey headquarters and an equipment leasing startup called WiredCapital in the San Francisco Area. Kiki's family bought a home in Telluride during the late 70's and she has been a part time resident here ever since. During her "corporate" years she discovered that she had a real passion for real estate. The lure of Telluride finally won out over "the real world" in 2000, and real estate was the natural choice for her in this beautiful corner of the world. She currently lives in the Town of Telluride with her 10 year old daughter. Kiki enjoys skiing, hiking, hanging out by the San Miguel, and just enjoying this amazing place. 970.708.0575 I kiki@tellurideproperties.com
