James 5:14, let him call on the elders of the church, let them pray over him... anoint him with oil in the Name of the Lord... and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up... and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him... confess your faults one to another... and pray ye one for another that... ye may be healed... the effectual... fervent prayer... of... a righteous man... avails much... verse 17... Elijah was a man... subject to like passions as we are... he prayed... earnestly... whole heartedly... that it might not rain, and it rained not on the earth by the space of 3 years and 6 months... and he prayed... again... and the heaven gave rain... and the earth, brought forth... her fruit... so... Elijah here is taken... as an example... of the praying... that avails much... he is... presented here... as a grand... commander... in the school... of prayer... and a particular instance was cited... he prayed... again... and the heaven... gave rain... and we will look at that... episode... back in 1st Kings chapter 18... and we will try to... explain... by the help of the Holy Spirit... what... each step that he took... represents today.
In chapter 18 of 1st Kings... beginning from verse 21... commanding answers... in prayers... and Elijah came unto all the people and said... how long halt ye between two opinions... verse 21... if the Lord be God, follow Him... and if baal, then follow him... and the people answered him not a word... then said Elijah unto the people, I even I only remain a prophet of the Lord... but baal’s prophets... are 450 men... let them therefore give us... 2 bullocks, and let them choose one bullock... for themselves... and cut it in pieces... and lay it on wood, and put no fire under it... and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under... and call ye on the name of your god... and I will call... on the Name of the Lord... and the God that answers by fire, let Him be God... and all the people answered and said... it is well spoken... amen... and let the God that answers by fire, let him be God... and the people said, that’s ok... let’s go ahead... and then they went on... praise the Lord... praise the Lord! Word... verse 37... hear me... oh Lord, hear me... that these people may know that Thou art the Lord God... and that Thou... hast turned their hearts... back... again... and verse 38, then... the Fire... of the Lord fell... and consumed the burnt sacrifice... and the wood... and the stones... and the dust... and licked up the water, that was in the trench... and when all people saw it... they fell... on their faces... and they said... I have done... all these things... at Thy Word... that means... every step he took... was as commanded by God, come on say as commanded by God... the first thing he did was to repair... the altar... of the Lord... that was broken down... he built it up with the stones... that were there... he repaired... the break in communication... the repairing of the altar represents repentance...
Isaiah 59 verses 1 and 2... the Hand... of the Lord is not short that it cannot save... neither His ears heavy, that He cannot hear us... but our iniquities have separated between us and our God... he repaired... the altar... of the Lord... he repaired... the altar... of the Lord... Psalm 66 verse 18... if I hide... iniquity in my heart... the Lord will not hear... my prayers... he repaired... the altar... of the Lord... if we say... we have no sin... when we have sinned... we deceive ourselves... and there is no Truth in us... but if we confess... our sins... I know there is something God cannot turn His Ears from... it is when you invoke His will... in prayer... when we ask anything according to His will, He hears us... so, everybody could be crying and jumping up and down... I shut the door... and I said to God, there must be a way out, come on say, there is a way out... there must be a way out of here... and while worshipping before the Lord, the Holy Spirit began to help me... to unfold... the will of God... one... He said, I am He that was dead... and behold, I am alive and I live forevermore, and I have the keys... of hell... and of death... for the first time, it came clear to me, satan... does not have the key... of death in his hand... come on say, I hear... Revelations chapter 1 verse 18... then in Hebrews chapter 2 verse 14... the Word of God said, He destroyed him... that had the power of death, through death... through death! He destroyed him that had the power of death... and delivered them, who through fear of death were subject to... bondage all their life-time... so, when Jesus died... He destroyed... the one... that had the power of death, that is... the devil... so satan can’t have a final say... as it regards... your lifespan... on earth... come on say, I hear...
In Isaiah 39 verse 24... shall the prey... be taken from the mighty... or shall the lawful captive be delivered... but thus saith the Lord... even the prey... of the mighty shall be taken... and the captive of the terrible shall be delivered... for I will contend... with them that contend... with you... and I will save your children... come on say help me Lord... no matter who is holding this child... should be equal to mockery, you are looking for fire... and you are pouring water, what kind of madness is that... you are going to pray fire down... even if the fire comes... won’t the water... quench it? ...fill 4 barrels with water... do it the first time... the second time... and the third time... and then, water was running over all... the places... and then... Elijah came... amen... after you have found... His Word... give Him... His praise... because He cannot deny... I think the absence... of thanksgiving... has led to untold frustrations in the school of prayer...
