It has been a great privilege of mine to be the Patron of Temple Bar TradFest for the past number of years. The festival has grown to become one of the biggest festivals celebrating our traditional music and culture in Dublin. Now in its 9th year Temple Bar TradFest features both national and internationally renowned artists in some of Dublin’s most iconic heritage buildings. As well as a fantastic programme of musical concerts the festival has a huge array of activities and events catering for all ages and tastes. From film screenings and theatre, to street performances, ceili workshops, marching pipe bands, amazing outdoor concerts featuring some of Irelands leading new musicians and craft markets. It promises to be a wonderful 5 days of music, culture and craic. We look forward to seeing you all there!
On behalf of the board and members of the Temple Bar Company , Welcome to Temple Bar TradFest 2014. Aisling Gheal an Anú Pictures Production made in association with Cork Community Television (CCTV) with the support of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland
Aisling Gheal is a scheme in the Munster Gaeltacht which encourages the transfer of the sean-nós singing tradition from one generation to the next. The film quietly observes the participants of the scheme over a year and focuses in particular on the relationship between renowned singer and teacher Máire Ní Chéilleachair and her talented student: 11-year old Shahira Apraku.
79 minutes. Ireland. Colour. 2013.D-cinema
Máire and Shahira’s journey together is underscored by their melodious singing as they travel from front room to classroom to town hall listening and learning and absorbing old traditions and challenging some of our key contemporary notions of ‘Irishness’ in the process.
