Wednesday

5:00-7:00

Check- In & Dinner Check in and discover what team you will be placed on. You spend most of your time with your team. You will have a Team Leader, who will be with your team the entire event. You may be lucky enough to have a Youth Team Leader. A new pilot program designed to give leadership opportunities to Rotactors, who are college age students. Your team will become your family. So get to know them and appreciate your differences. Deliver your supplies to your assigned cabin and return to the Pavilion for dinner.

7:00-8:30

Geting To Know You! The Alumni (students chosen as leaders from RYLA 2011) will conduct games and fun to help you get to know other students. Relax and have fun! This will be the beginning of a week to remember.

8:30-10:30

Cabin Get to Know You! Students will go to their individual cabins. The students in your cabins may not be the same members in your team. You will have a chance to know who your Cabin Parent is and play some games to get to know each other. The more people you know the merrier. 8 Ryla 2012

the plan

Thursday

11:00-12:00

Team Talk #1 Each team will split off to have a team talk. The purpose of a team talk is to discuss what you learned from the speaker. Your Youth Team Leader or Team Leader will help you discover things that you learned. This will give you an opportunity to share your ideas with others. Relax….it won’t be that hard. Since you are on your way to becoming a Different Kind of Hero. This will be a breeze, especially for a “Super Hero”. Now that your team has discussed the speaker create your Inspiration Board. Your Inspiration Board should have 3 principles that your group agrees will help you in the future whether at home or in school. Give your board a little flair with some creativity. We will place your boards throughout camp to remind you of the things that you are learning. Prizes will be given to the team of the top 5 boards at camp.

meet the super-stars Sam Bracken Sam Bracken shares his story of growing up in Las Vegas with mobsters and motorcycle gang members as his role models. Abused by his wannabe mobster stepfather Leroy and a sadistic older stepbrother, Sam started drinking and doing drugs by age 9. As a 13-year-old his love of sports led him to quit drugs and drinking. He languished in special education classes until an eighth grade teacher discovered he just needed glasses. His mom suffered a mental breakdown and abandoned Sam, then 15. Despite being essentially homeless throughout high school, Sam graduated with a 3.9 GPA as #11 out of a class of 720 and won a full ride football scholarship to the Georgia Institute of Technology. When Sam left Las Vegas, everything he owned in the world fit into an orange duffel bag. After a standout year as a freshman Georgia Tech football player, Sam suffered seemingly career-ending shoulder injuries. 22 Ryla 2012
