Head Coach Polk Brown
First season
Top 5 finisher in 2006 OVC Tournament Four-time all-tournament selection
Former Golden Eagle player Polk Brown was named July 21, 2011, as the head women’s and men’s golf coach at Tennessee Tech University. Brown takes over the reins from women’s coach Brandy Stout and men’s coach Craig King. Both Stout and King were serving in part-time roles, while Brown will be a full-time coach for the two teams. “This is an exciting development for our women’s and men’s golf teams, and one that we feel will really benefit our studentathletes,” said TTU Director of Athletics Mark Wilson. “Polk Brown is an outstanding young man with tremendous enthusiasm, a passion for the game of golf, and a strong desire to help our student-athletes achieve success. “This change is not a reflection on our previous coaches in any way,” Wilson added. “The past few years we went with coaches who had other full-time positions and coached our teams part-time. This new direction is simply an opportunity for us to go with a full-time coach. We wanted to go with someone who could spend more ‘face’ time with our players, more time on the golf course in practices, and could also develop a recruiting plan for the future to make sure that we recruit the most outstanding student-athletes for the golf teams.”
Tennessee Tech,” Brown said. “It’s a dream come true. The coaches before me, especially Bobby, left a huge legacy for me to try to fulfill, especially in the high principles he held. I remember going to school in August, 2001 and now it’s exactly 10 years later I’m coming back as head coach. It’s such an honor.” Brown said helping the current and future Golden Eagle players achieve success in life will be his highest priority. “I just want to represent Tennessee Tech in the best way possible. I am thrilled to be coming back, and I want to work with these young men and women and help them achieve all they can,” Brown said. “I want them to graduate from Tennessee Tech, and I want to help prepare them to be successful for the rest of their lives. I want them to strive for OVC championships, and
Brown received his bachelor’s degree in finance from Tech in 2006, and will complete his coursework in August to add his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction. He spent his first year after graduation as an Apprentice at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, then returned to school in 2009 to begin working toward his master’s. He has also worked the past two years at Oak Ridge Country Club teaching and hosting junior clinics. “I am absolutely honored to have the opportunity to represent 2

Golden Eagle Coaching Staff to become the very best person they can. And, when they look back they can say it was the best time they’ve ever had. I look forward to the challenge and I just can’t wait to get started.” Brown was a four-year letterman under coach Bobby Nichols, playing for the Golden Eagles from 2001 to 2006, with a redshirt season in 2002-03. As a player, he earned all-tournament honors four times during his career, including the Mercer Invitational as a freshman and both the EKU Spring Invitational and Austin Peay Invitational as a senior. A team captain in his final year, he finished fifth at the 2006 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament to claim his fourth all-tournament honor. In 2001-02 he won the Most Improved Player Award and the Impact Award, and in 2005-06 he received the team’s Most Dedicated Player Award.
Assistant Coach Carla Hazelwood First season
A 2009 graduate of Tennessee Tech and former Golden Eagle golfer, Carla Hazelwood has returned to her alma mater to take the position of assistant coach for the men’s and women’s golf teams. Most recently, Hazelwood served as the graduate assistant coach at fellow OVC school, Austin Peay. She joins the Tech staff to support head coach Polk Brown Hazelwood began her career at Tech in 2005 and was named Most Dedicated Player by legendary TTU coach Bobby Nichols. A team captain in 2009, she finished her playing career with two all-tournament honors (2006 North/South/Jacksonville Beach Golf Course and 2007 TSU Triangular/Greystone Golf Course) Brown, in his second season at the helm, believes the experience Hazelwood gained at Austin Peay will be a valuable asset to his teams. “I look forward to seeing what the future holds for our program with her being aboard,” he added. Hazelwood will assist both the men’s and women’s teams with their spring seasons. TENNESSEE TECH GOLF GUIDE / 2012-13

here's no question Tennessee Tech University is a great place to get an education. And Cookeville is a great college town. The largest micropolitan area in Tennessee and one of the top 40 micropolitan areas in the nation, Cookeville has consistently been rated among the top 10 most affordable regions in the nation.
Cookeville boasts a mild climate, with an average temperature of 57 and four distinct seasons. Located within a day's drive of 75 percent of the nation's population, Cookeville is just off Interstate 40, which runs from the east coast to California. City life is easily accessible, as well, because Cookeville is situated within 100 miles of Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga — three of Tennessee's major metropolitan areas. The seat of Putnam County, Cookeville is the heart of a three-county alliance known as the Highlands, which centers Tennessee's 14-county Upper Cumberland region. We have hundreds of acres of unspoiled nature — from championship golf courses to natural preserves, state parks and top-rated lakes — close to home. There's plenty of nature inside the city limits, too; the City of Cookeville tends nine parks, including Cane Creek Park, a 262-acre natural area with a 56-acre lake. And while Cookeville is a relatively small town, we have no lack of culture. We are one of the smallest cities in the U.S. with a full-blown symphony orchestra, and our area attracts visual artists and craftspeople from across the nation, thanks to the Appalachian Center for Craft, a satellite campus of TTU. Drama also takes center stage here, with the 456-seat Cookeville Performing Arts Center cranking out productions year-round, including the award-winning Drama Center Backstage series. Cookeville is home to three museums — the Cookeville Depot Museum, the Cookeville History Museum and the Cookeville Children's Museum — and a year-round slate of events, including regular excursion trains and the annual Fall FunFest. A walkable downtown shopping district and an impressive roster of national chain stores give the retail segment a small-town feel with big-city convenience. Add to that our more than 100 restaurants and 1,400 hotel rooms, and you'll quickly see that Cookeville offers something for everyone.

EMPHASIZING PLAYER DEVELOPMENT The Tennessee Tech strength and conditioning program is a blend of science, technology, nutrition and one-on-one attention to each athlete. Golden Eagle student-athletes make a year-round commitment to physically preparing to play their sport at the highest level. At TTU, a program is tailored to match each student-athlete’s individual needs with the sport-specific physical demands. This includes strength, speed, power, agility, flexibility, metabolic conditioning and motivation. This combination allows Tennessee Tech’s student-athletes to better reach their specific goals. Another major focus of the strength staff is the development of sport-specific speed, agility and conditioning. 42
