WHAT TO LOOK FOR THIS WEEK

THE TITANS DEFENSE

¾ Enters the week with a streak of four consecutive games with three sacks. A fifth straight game with three or more sacks would be the team's longest streak since a five-game run in 2017.

S KEVIN BYARD

¾ With 24 career interceptions, he needs one interception to tie Michael

Griffin and Ken Houston (25) for eighth place all-time for the franchise.

He would tie Griffin for the most interceptions for the franchise during its "Titans era" (1999–present). ¾ Needs two interceptions to tie Mike Reinfeldt (26) for seventh place all-time for the franchise.

RB DERRICK HENRY

¾ Needs one rushing touchdown (72 career) to tie Earl Campbell (73) for the most rushing touchdowns in franchise history. ¾ Needs 14 receiving yards (986 career) to reach 1,000 career receiving yards and join Eddie George and Chris Johnson as the franchise's third player with 7,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards. ¾ Needs 130 scrimmage yards to give him six consecutive games reaching the mark, which establish a new career-best streak (five in 2021). ¾ Will hit 1,000 scrimmage yards in 2022 with 105 more scrimmage yards (895), marking his fifth consecutive season to do so. ¾ Can record his fifth consecutive 100-yard rushing game, which would tie for the best streak of his career (five games in 2021). It would be his 33rd career 100-yard rushing game, including regular season (30) and playoffs (three). ¾ Needs three rushing touchdowns to reach 10 for the season and join

LaDainian Tomlinson (nine), Adrian Peterson (seven), Shaun

Alexander (five) and Michael Turner (five) as the only players in NFL history to rush for at least 10 touchdowns in five consecutive seasons.

DT JEFFERY SIMMONS

¾ Can register his fourth consecutive game with at least one sack to extend the longest such streak of his career.

QB RYAN TANNEHILL

¾ Can record his 25th career 300-yard passing game and his ninth such performance since joining the Titans in 2019. Nine 300-yard games with the Titans would put him ahead of Marcus Mariota (eight) for fourth place in franchise history. ¾ Can record his fourth consecutive start with no interceptions, which would tie for the longest streak of his career. ¾ Needs one start to become the sixth quarterback to register 50 regularseason starts with the organization. He would join George Blanda, Dan

Pastorini, Warren Moon, Steve McNair and Marcus Mariota. ¾ Needs one victory to set the record for the most wins by a Titans/Oilers starting quarterback in a player's first four seasons with the organization.

With 36 wins—34 in the regular season and two in the playoffs—he is tied with George Blanda for the most in the regular season and the most combined in the regular season and playoffs over his first four seasons.

The Titans and Chiefs are historic rivals that played an integral role in the formation of the current NFL landscape. In 1959, late Titans owner K.S. “Bud” Adams, Jr. and the late Lamar Hunt, founder of the Chiefs, spearheaded the “Foolish Club,” a group of eight original American Football League teams that would begin play in 1960. Adams’ Oilers played in Houston until moving to Tennessee in 1997, while Hunt’s original Dallas Texans moved to Kansas City in 1963. In 1970, the AFL and NFL merged, and the Oilers and Chiefs became members of the American Football Conference. The Titans and Chiefs have met 55 times (regular season and postseason), with the Chiefs holding a 30-25 advantage. The Titans lost seven out of 10 in the series until taking five of the last six matchups from 2014 to 2021. The last two times the clubs squared off at Arrowhead Stadium were playoff games—most recently the 2019 AFC Championship game played on Jan. 19, 2020. The Chiefs earned a trip to Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers, which they ultimately won, by defeating the Titans 35-24. Patrick Mahomes passed for 294 yards and three scores for the Chiefs. In a wild card game at Kansas City on Jan. 6, 2018, the Titans trailed 21-3 at the start of the second half but came back to win 22-21, tying the second-largest comeback by a road team in NFL playoff history. Running back Derrick Henry set a then-franchise playoff record with 191 scrimmage yards, while quarterback Marcus Mariota completed two touchdown passes, including one to himself on a deflected pass.

Tennessee is 3-2 against the Chiefs at Nissan Stadium, including a 27-3 victory on Oct. 24, 2021 in the most recent meeting at the Titans’ home. The Titans defense forced three turnovers and totaled four sacks, while Henry rushed for 86 yards and completed a touchdown pass to tight end MyCole Pruitt.

On Dec. 18, 2016, the Titans played their coldest game in franchise history, with a kickoff temperature at Arrowhead Stadium of 1 degree. Ryan Succop nailed a 53-yard field goal as time expired to give the Titans the win.

Prior to their 2017 wild card battle and 2019 AFC title bout, the two franchises have played two other playoff games, and the Chiefs were victorious both times. They met on Dec. 12, 1962 in the third AFL Championship Game, a contest won by the then-Dallas Texans over the Oilers on a Tommy Brooker field goal in double overtime. On Jan. 16, 1994, Kansas City's Joe Montana completed three touchdown passes in the second half to help defeat Warren Moon and the Oilers 28-20.

TITANS-CHIEFS: THE LAST MEETING Week 7: Titans 27, Chiefs 3 Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021 • 12:00 p.m. CT • Nissan Stadium

In Week 7 of the 2021 season, the Titans hosted the Chiefs and won by a score of 27-3. Tennessee’s defense limited Kansas City to 334 total yards, including just 67 yards in the first half, and tallied four sacks and three takeaways in the victory. Offensively, the Titans converted eight-of-12 third down chances (66.7 percent) and possessed the ball for 36 minutes and 21 seconds.

Tennessee put together two touchdown drives in the first quarter to take an early 14-0 lead. On the opening drive, WRs A.J. Brown and Julio Jones caught first-down passes, and RB Derrick Henry added 20 total yards, before Henry took the direct snap and threw a five-yard touchdown pass to TE MyCole Pruitt. On the ensuing Kansas City possession, OLB Bud Dupree sacked Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on third down to force Kansas City to punt. Beginning the possession at their own three-yard line, Tennessee constructed a 97-yard scoring drive that included a 46-yard pass from QB Ryan Tannehill to Brown. Ultimately, Tannehill threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Brown for a 14-0 Titans advantage.

In the second quarter, Tennessee extended the lead to 27-0 after scoring 13 points. The Titans took six minutes and 39 seconds off the clock with their first scoring drive that resulted in a 34-yard field goal by K Randy Bullock. On the first play of the following Chiefs possession, Mahomes’ pass was broken up by LB David Long Jr. and intercepted by LB Rashaan Evans to give Tennessee possession at the Kansas City 46-yard line. Tennessee capitalized on the turnover with an eight-play scoring drive that included an 11-yard first-down rush by Henry and a 20-yard first-down catch by Jones. The possession was capped off with a two-yard rushing touchdown by Tannehill to make it 24-0, Titans.

The Tennessee defense did not allow Kansas City to score another point, as the Titans sealed their third consecutive victory with a 27-3 home win over the Chiefs.
