How to play tennis: Starting the point Tennis points begin with one player, hitting the ball over the net to the other player’s service court. This is called a serve. Playing the point Once a player serves the ball, the other player hits the ball back over the net. For the game to continue each player has to hit the ball over the net to the other player within the correct boundary of the court. A player will get a point if the other player does not return the ball correctly. Scoring The points system is as follows: 0, 15, 30, 40, game. If points are 40 – 40, players must win 2 points in a row to win the game. The first player to reach six games and be ahead by at least two games wins the set. The first player to win two sets wins the match.
