“Camiguin Island” When you hear the word “Camiguin” what comes in your mind? An island? An ordinary island where people lives?

Camiguin Island was believed that the first people who inhabted here were the Manobo people of Surigao Del Norte.It was also believed that Camiguin Island was also used as a trading stop point before.The Spanish documents also says that Ferdinand Magellan and Miguel Lopez de Legazpi also landed in Camiguin 1521 and 1565.During the American colonial era,World war II. Camiguin also took part of it as an Island who was controlled by the Americans and Japanese during those years.

One of the place that you must visit in camiguin is The Old Guiob Church Ruins were there are lots of people who would do camping or would set up every holy week. Old Guiob Church is one of the oldest church that was ruined by the volcan eruption way back May 13, 1871. The only architecture that was left in the church are the walls and the tower bell. Beside the church is an over looking camiguin sea where you can also see the one of the oldest tree in camiguin that is now a century-old. Aside from the tourist attraction, one thing that makes you want to visit the Old Church Guiob is the presence of the history that makes you imagine the old kind of church compared on what we have now a days. The respect of the catholic people remains after it was destroyed. Old Church Guiob is a peaceful place that everyone can still worship and reflect. If you wish to light a candle, there are kids who sell candles and can also tells you the history of the old church. The vendors of the candle also sell ice cream bars so it is a perfect food for the mind, body, and soul as you visit the old church.

Mt. Hibok-Hibok also known as the Catarman Volcano is one of the active volcanoes in Camiguin.

It has six hot springs (Ardent Spring,Tangob,Bugong,Tagdo,Nasaag , and Kiyab.) Mount Hibok-Hibok has erupted five times.. The first recorded eruption was in 1827 anf was followed in 1862. Mount Hibok-Hibok is a popular Hiking destination in Camiguin Island.

The Sunken Cementery Of Camiguin Island Sunken Cementery is a cementery that is located under Camiguin’s crystal water. It is because of an eruption in 1870’s Mt. Vulcan Daan that cause it to sink. Tourists would love to visit Sunken Cementery because of its history and its spectacular view.

Lanzones Festival

Lanzones festival is held every third week of October and it is a four day grand celebration of the lanzones fruit. Lanzones Festival in Mambadjao Camiguin is celebrated with a weekend street dancing competition and parties, cultural shows, parade and beaty pageants (coronation of Mutya sa Buahanan) and trade fair that features local handicrafts and products.
