El Valle Caído

This monumental complex suffers an unstoppable symbolic decay, that is materialized in a physical decay through the onset of architectural pathologies, such as leaks and cracks, which compromise the safety of the visitor and announce the site’s future ruin.

On this subject, a project starts, whose purpose is to intervene in the natural transition towards the ruin and redirect it to a new and resignified experience.

A continuous hydraulic system that accelerates and controls degradation is set on the monument and transforms the experience of the architecture, allowing safe visits through a changing landscape where nature takes control.

The purpose of this international design competition was to select a reasonable, creative, and artistic entry that meets the concept of the new Gangseo-gu government office complex.

Formed by members of the collective UNI_CO, and associated with the South Korean offices BAUM and ISON architects, our team found inspiration in the latest biophilic and smart office concepts, and projected a distinctively horizontal, organic building that enhances a healthy work environment through its connection with nature.

The landscape is concieved as an extension of the annexed park, becoming part of the rooftops in the shape of terraces that can be enjoyed by its residents.

Torcello

The small island of Torcello was the first settlement in the lagoon by the Venetians fleeing from terra firma. The project aims to read the lying archaeological remains as a living, yet serene landscape that breathes at its own pace.

A new public square brings together the most relevant constructions, which play a scenographic role in the island as they reconnect to each other, thanks to the insertion of two new landmarks: a dock for visitors and an archaeological museum.

Baths of Passy

Built by the ends of the 19th century, The Passy reserves have fallen into disuse but still contain water in some of their tanks, which endows them with great aesthetic and cultural value.

The place is reactivated with the insertion of two mixed uses (private/public) that operate in a dialogue with each other through glass walls. The private fashion studio nests inside the thickest dividing wall, like a spine, illuminated by skylights. Surrounding it under concrete vaults, the public baths take place.

There is a symbiosis between these two programs: the hot springs expose the nudity of the human body, which positively influences the fashion studio. This one, in return, shows its working process in full transparency and provides natural light.

This project seeks to respond to the needs of the neighborhood Morichal, one of the poorest in Cali, with a reticular structure and approximately thirty empty parcels. A masterplan is carried out, based on the application of design strategies at four different scales: urban scale, neighborhood scale, super-block scale and, eventually, architecture scale.

The proposal consists of unifying the neighborhood through a hierarchy of new streets, and the creation of a public network for the neighbors by setting ‘core poles’ in the empty plots. These poles are programmatically dependent and focus on the economic rehabilitation of the area.

Architecture is born from a purely spatial and functional process, resolved with a guadua structure, which is treated and distributed locally.

Ecopark Barceloneta

The project consists of the creation of a sustainable public park on the Barcelona coast, through specific actions related to the production of artistic and cultural events.

The work strategy consists of setting three main objectives: the minimum environmental impact, the cultural-educational scope, and the use of the properties of water.

A series of artifacts of simple bar and tie rod structures create a close relationship with water, slope, and winds. The park’s vegetation is controlled thanks to geodesic domes that host different climates, composting systems and emphemeral structures for rent.

An interactive public space is generated, where the user can manipulate the architecture and its life cycle.

The project is based on the constructive reinterpretation of Mario Botta’s Casa Bianchi through the experimental system Contour Crafting, with the aim of studying its advantages in speed, adaptability and economical saving on site.

Contour Crafting is a robotic system where all the construction is carried out by a single machine with extrusion nozzles that inject different materials in situ.

In 5 cm layers, concrete and thermal insulation are injected, aided by a mechanical arm that distributes mesh, lintels, ringbeams and other steel elements.

Laser Dreams

Young architects with no money, but with a laser cutter? This is the smartest solution for crafty entrepreneurs.

This project consists of the design of a complete and detailed catalog of furniture for architecture offices, made entirely with laser-cut wooden boards. The complete design and building process in all varieties of each piece of furniture were collected and classified in a Decogest database.

The catalog includes both traditional furniture for chairs, tables and shelves as well as those elements specialized in architecture: plotting tables, model workshops with cutting plates or a set of work surfaces that are organized in multiple ways.

A wide, straight avenue is the main decision of this project, which is developed in a wide range of urban scales to establish a Masterplan in the Fuencarral District.

The entire area is designed from scratch, respecting the existing architecture of José Luis Romany (1958-60), and creates new streets, connections and improved parks over the pre-existing ones.

The main intention is to promote communication between neighbors and their private and public well-being. Five different types of housing, with their legal ordinances, have been designed in close relationship with the environment and key points, such as the Clesa factory or the Ramón y Cajal hospital.

Odisea 4tet

The commission envolves the creation of a new image for the flamenco-jazz quartet Odisea 4tet, formed by musicians from different parts of the world: Norway, Canada and Spain. The band logo is redefined, as well as the layout and album cover art for both physical and digital releases, and the promo ads for social networks.

The study of the geographical position of each of the members on the map results in a geometry based on the inscribed triangle, which, in combination with Medi Farmani’s abstract paintings, leads to a composition that reflects the stretch relationship between technique and passion in both flamenco and jazz traditions.
