2011 SEASON PREVIEW

This team offers much desire and spirit and I’m excited to see how they’ll perform”

T

he 2011 Women’s Tennis program returns after a one year hiatus. This new squad features nine new faces and one returner from the 2009 team. This team offers much desire and spirit and I’m excited to see how they’ll perform especially in the Orange Empire Conference which has ruled Women’s Tennis in the CCCAA. Returning to the Chargers is Nicole El-Ali from the 2009 team. El-Ali played in the #1/2 position for Cypress and met with very tough competition. She teamed up with Yvonne Jara to play #1 doubles and had some success in conference play. Her experiencing playing in those positions should provide some solidity to the Charger line up where this year El-Ali looks to play in the #3/4 position. El-Ali is a good player and an even better student. I’m extremely glad to have her back.

2

The Chargers welcome nine new

freshman. Looking to make an immediate impact are Jamee Biadora from Carson, CA. Biadora brings the most playing experience on the team as she successfully competed in junior tournaments and in high school. Biadora is a tough competitor who should make a dent in the always tough Orange Empire Conference. Chelsea Logan comes to us from Cerritos, CA. Logan has been named the Captain of team and has displayed exemplary leadership and baking skills. Logan has steadily improved since joining the squad in the fall and looks to test her skills in competition. Also joining the Chargers is Theresa ‘Tree’ Roque from Corona, CA. Roque has a feisty spirit and is a tough player. Roque brings experience from high school play and also from playing in USTA Jr. Team Tennis. The rest of the freshman squad look to bolster and deepen the Charger line up which is definitely key to winning matches.

Cypress College Chargers Women’s Tennis

Coach Michelle Esquivel will be the key to the Charger Women’s Tennis programs success. Esquivel brings an impressive resume as a former stand-out player for conference rival Orange Coast College where she won Conference, Ojai, and State as an individual and with her team. From OCC Esquivel played under scholarship for Concordia University in Irvine. Michelle is a great role model for these young ladies. They can definitely benefit from her experience as a player because she knows what it takes to be the best and compete at a high level. The future of the Charger’s Women’s Tennis program looks bring. We look to elevate the team to the high standard of success here at Cypress College especially with our highly touted women’s softball, soccer, basketball and volleyball programs. Thank you to all who support our program and we look forward to seeing you out on the tennis courts.

enito came to Cypress to take over his first collegiate head coaching job after five seasons at conference rival Riverside College. He splits his time between the Men and Women’s program for the Chargers.
