Oder river rewilding

competition entry - booklet | online | 2023 Exploration of Climate Impact on Oder River Ecosystem: This project delves into the critical issue of climate change‘s impact on the Oder River, spanning Poland and Germany. Focusing on the extensive fish die-off during the summer months of 2022, it aims to raise awareness about the vulnerability of local ecosystems to climate change repercussions. The investigation addresses the weak media coverage surrounding this issue and emphasizes the importance of understanding and mitigating the environmental impact. Conducting research in both Polish and German languages, the project analyzes actions taken on each side of the border, with the added complexity of a suspected chemical leak on the German side. The final booklet submitted outlines root causes, drivers, and adaptation strategies to mitigate the impact on the local ecosystem.

Introduction In summer of 2022 more than 100 tons1 of dead fish were recovered from the river Oder in Poland and Germany. According to German Naturschutzbund (NABU, eng. „Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union“) it is an ecological disaster of the year – winning the price “dinosaurs of the year” 20222. From an official report delivered by the IGB (Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries) the disaster was man-made and caused huge damage to the Oder River ecosystem.

The river Oder runs from the Czech Republic through southern Poland before it creates a natural border between Germany and Poland and flows into the Baltic Sea. Along its 840km3 long stream it is home to more than 40 domestic fish species4.

Nasturtium

Sowvital & Farrago | London, United Kingdom Nasturtium project was done in collaboration with Sowvital & Farrago. The original idea was to create an artwork for a packaging design. With that I also delivered 14 other artworks, showing the stages of the nasturtium plant in different graphical styles. The central composition strategically directs the viewer‘s gaze. Vibrant orange blossoms stand in stark contrast against a dark blue backdrop, creating a dynamic interplay of color and form. This allows the piece to capture attention. Sowvital is a fusion of plant sciences and mindful care, reigniting connection with plants.

Blog illustrations

25onehundred - blog posts | online | 2021-23 As an Illustrator for Blue Mango Blog, I crafted 25+ unique illustrations, experimenting with styles to visually enhance diverse articles, stories, and poems. This creative journey not only honed my design skills but also aimed to make environmental issues more compelling to the audience, transforming complex sustainability concepts into engaging visuals on the platform. Concurrently, collaborating with 25onehundred, a youth-focused consulting firm, my visuals played a crucial role in simplifying complex sustainability insights for various blog articles. This collaboration contributed to a visually engaging narrative that fosters environmental awareness, addressing diverse topics to amplify the impact of the company‘s work in youth empowerment.

Think

competition entry - poster | online | 2024 Crafted for IPT2024, my „Think ( )“ poster intrigues from afar, showcasing the word „Think“ with seemingly empty brackets. Closer inspection reveals a carefully chosen word, sparking a transformative thought process. The second poster, a collage in a disrupted grid, reflects on nature‘s unpredictability. Subtle yellow and dark blue hues add mystery, inviting viewers to explore chaos and beauty within the seemingly disordered arrangement

Doves in harmony

competition entry - poster | online | 2024 This peaceful poster creates a calm atmosphere with two doves flying over a patchwork of flowers in soothing blue, white, and black hues. The doves, looking back at the viewer, prompt reflection on unity and harmony. The details on their wings and tails add a handmade touch, reminiscent of traditional folk art. The abundance of small flowers invites viewers to appreciate the simple beauty and find serenity in the overall composition.

Happy

competition entry - poster | online | 2024 Inspired by the Japanese character for happiness, my handkerchief design delves into the intricate exploration of styling, line weight, and negative space. Multiple renditions of the character „happy“ form a labyrinth, symbolizing life‘s journey with its struggles and complexities. Within the seemingly chaotic maze lies a hidden happiness symbol, emphasizing the need to concentrate and pause amidst challenges. The visual metaphor suggests that, like stopping tears to read the symbol, one must focus amid life‘s complexities to discover the joy within. This artwork prompts viewers to ponder the interplay between perception and reality, offering a contemplative perspective on finding happiness amid life‘s twists and turns.

Minhwa Tiger

personal | London, United Kingdom | 2023 This acrylic tiger, crafted with a CNC machine and assembled using chloroform, draws inspiration from Minhwa, the Korean traditional art of depicting tigers. In a dynamic fighting stance, the tiger bares its claws and teeth, capturing a moment of intensity and anger. Minhwa often symbolizes protection and courage, and here, the tiger embodies those qualities, poised as if ready to leap into action. The intricate details in the acrylic layers enhance the ferocity, paying homage to the rich artistic heritage of Korean tiger depictions.

Raku ceramics

personal | Prague, Czech Republic | 2022 Inspired by the rich tradition of Japanese horse raku, I created a series of vases using this distinctive firing technique. Rooted in the centuries-old Japanese art of raku, horse raku adds an element of unpredictability to the creative process. As the vases undergo rapid firing and reduction cooling, the magic unfolds, resulting in mesmerizing and intricate patterns that adorn the surfaces. Each piece becomes a testament to the dynamic interplay between fire, clay, and the artist‘s intent, echoing the essence of wabi-sabi philosophy that celebrates imperfections and the beauty of transience. This exploration into horse raku not only pays homage to tradition but also embraces the spontaneity and uniqueness inherent in this fascinating ceramic art form.
