Vieną gegužės rytą gražioje nedidelėje šiaurinėje šalyje Lietuvoje, o tiksliau – vienoje iš jos sostinės Vilniaus gatvių, vaikai būriavosi prie išilgai šaligatvio pastatyto automobilio. Jie atrodė persigandę. Keletas jų, įlindę tarp automobilio ratų, mėgino su lazda pasiekti ir išardyti dalį variklio. Dėl ko kilo visas šis sąmyšis? Kodėl tiek triukšmo? 6
One May morning in the beautiful and small Northern country – Lithuania, on one of the streets of its capital Vilnius, to be more precise, the children were flocking around the car parked along the pavement. They seemed alarmed. Several children got between the car’s wheels and tried to reach and disassemble part of the engine with a stick. What has caused such turmoil? What is the reason of so much noise? 7
Ogi todėl, kad automobilio variklyje jau valandų valandas kniaukė kačiukas. Ir taip garsiai, kad vaikai, žaidžiantys gatvėje, liovėsi lakstyti, atidėjo į šalį savo dviračius, kamuolius ir stengėsi gyvūnėliui padėti. Neatsargusis kačiukas, įlindęs pro nedidelę angą, atsidūrė po automobilio kapotu ir slinkdamas vamzdžiu dar toliau nuklydo. 8
That was because a kitten has been mewing for several hours in the car’s engine already. It was mewing so loudly that the children, who were playing on the street, stopped running, put their bicycles and balls aside, and started attempting to help the animal. The careless kitten climbed through a small hole, got under the car’s hood and got lost even more while moving down the pipe. 9

Iš smalsumo ar norėdamas pasilinksminti, o gal pasislėpti nuo saulės? Kas žino? O dabar nebėra, kaip išlįsti. Vargšas gyvūnėlis ne juokais įstrigo! Netoliese švilpaudama sau ėjo Elžbieta. Grįždama iš draugės Saros, ji buvo džiugiai nusiteikusi. Bus graži diena.

Was it curiosity or a wish to have fun? Maybe it was hiding from the sun? Who knows‌ And now there was no way out. The poor animal was really stuck! Elizabeth was walking nearby whistling. She was going back from her friend Sara and was in a joyful mood. It was going to be a nice day.
Eidama ji mėgavosi saulute, gėrėjosi soduose žydinčiomis gėlėmis ir ryškiaspalviais namais. Ji jau žinojo, ką darys: susitvarkys namus, turguje nusipirks vaisių, o svarbiausia – iškeps gardų šokoladinį pyragą, kurį pavakariams skanaus kartu su Sara. 12
While walking, she was enjoying the sun, admiring flowers blooming in the gardens and houses in bright colours. She knew what she was going to do: she was going to clean her home, to buy some fruits in the market, and most importantly, she was going to bake a tasty chocolate pie that she was going to eat with Sara for their afternoon snack.
