Smith’s Gap, Walter Hill Range Ecological Corridor Planting Connecting habitat from Mission Beach to the Southern Atherton Tablelands Everyone Welcome Saturday 11th March (9.30am – 12.30pm, including sausage sizzle) Smith’s Gap (Maadi), Old Tully Road World Heritage Area, Tully Gorge National Park Bring: hat, sunscreen, chair, drinking water and gloves. Activities: • Plant a tree or several • Chat to “Crazy About Cassowaries”; Terrain NRM Ltd, Cassowary Coast Regional Council, Community for Coastal and Cassowary Conservation (C4), Girringun Aboriginal Corporation, Wet Tropics Management Authority, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS). • Have a cuppa and snag while you check out some of the display material. Why? • Smith’s Gap, Walter Hill Range corridor is a nationally significant ecological corridor that connects coastal lowland rainforest to forests of the Southern Tablelands • Preservation of this ecological corridor is critical in maintaining the flow of biodiversity (animals and plants) • This corridor is used by the iconic and endangered gardener of the rainforest, the southern cassowary; • This planting connects with, and highlights the importance of other conservation work being done by Traditional Owners, landowners and stakeholders in the Walter Hill Range area; • It feels good to do something for the environment.
