raw FLASHY, WORLDLY, CREATIVE Lincoln Road is where the best gets better. orm UNIQUE BACKDROP TO MODERN MOTION Whimsical Art Deco façades line Lincoln Road, while palm trees, open-air seating and the occasional water fountain enrich the scene along this wide pedestrian promenade. The new sweeps in, constantly, while beloved old form is restored, preserved, because it’s intrinsic to Lincoln Road. It’s why a historic theater was renovated into a unique flagship store, preserving its unique interior and exterior features. A few steps north is the city’s New World Center. The 756-seat concert facility, designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, is home to the New World Symphony and draws 40,000+ attendees a year. The adjacent public park features a 7,000 square foot projection wall on which selected events are broadcast to outside onlookers. And so it goes on Lincoln Road, where people walk in and stroll out, while retailers go up, literally, adding top floors with designs that make a statement on modern while bowing to the historic. Expect more. Two short blocks north of Lincoln Road, plans are underway for a $500 million renovation of the city’s convention center. An urban-friendly, environmentresponsive design will add space and encase its indoor buzz with a wavy, glass façade, as if a continuation of the nearby ocean and its dance under Miami’s glorious sunlight. A tree-canopied park with ample lawn area and a veterans’ plaza will greet and guide visitors indoors. A new hotel also is in the plans, to host convention groups.
