The history of one of the world’s top bicycles started back in 1885 when then 21 year old Edoardo Bianchi opened his small bicycle shop focusing on repairs in Milan’s via Nirone. After just 3 years in the business, he created his first bicycle and as soon as 1896 began using his bicycles in races as a testing ground, which was a totally new concept at the time. Within 3 years of entering the racing scene, Bianchi Bicycles had their first international victory in the Grand Prix of Paris, the prelude to the Tour de France.

SIGNATURE The Bianchi signature is a graphic representation of our organization and the values for which it stands. It identify by displaying an image that is strong and credible. The signature combines two of the most important visual elements of our brand—the Bianchi word mark and the bianchi symbol. The diagram to the right illustrates the graphic features that make the signature unique. Position, size and color, as well as the spacial and proportional relationships of the signature elements, are predetermined and should not be altered.

SECTION 1 // CUSTOMIZED

By controlling the background on which the Bianchi signature is placed, we ensure signature legibility and brand integrity. The preferred background is white or a solid color with a high contrast, which allows for the greatest legibility. Ideally, the background will allow for clear identifi cation of all signature elements: symbol, wordmark, color and clear space.

The examples on this page demonstrate some common mistakes made when applying the signature. Avoid using such backgrounds, as they compromise the legibility of the Bianchi identity. When placing the signature with a background that might interfere, consider these options: select a different image or less active part of the same image; screen the background image or pattern; or choose another signature variation or confi guration, such as the 1-color positive or white reverse.

TINTS COLORS // TINTS

Only use tints of colors when treating information graphics, otherwise use the color at 100%. Visual representations of data are conveyed more clearly and are better understood when color is properly used. Using pairs of colors that have adequate contrast will make the design of information graphics more effective. Each color are designed to add visual depth and flexibility and to convey additional levels of information hierarchy.

ABOUT Edoardo Bianchi, a 21-year-old medical instrument maker, Edoardo started his bicycle manufacturing business in a small shop at 7 Via Nirone, Milan in 1885. It has been part of Cycleurope Group, the Swedish company of Grimaldi Industri AB, since May 1997. Bianchi pioneered the front wheel calliper brake. The British bicycle historian, Hilary Stone, said Bianchi "was not a small specialist manufacturer but rather a large industrial concern with most of their bicycle output being pretty run-of-the-mill models." SPONSORSHIP The Bianchi reputation began when the company sponsored Giovanni Tommasello, the winner of the Grand Prix de Paris sprint competition in 1899. Fifteen years later it was making 45,000 bicycles, 1,500 motorcycles and 1,000 cars a year. In 1935 Bianchi sponsored Costante Girardengo, one of the first Italian stars on the road, and its bicycle sales rose to 70,000 per year. In 1950 Fausto Coppi won the Paris–Roubaix on a Bianchi equipped with what was later named the Campagnolo Paris–Roubaix derailleur gear, for which Bianchi bicycles featured the necessary special drop-outs until 1954.
