Sarita Sharp hails from Indianapolis, IN, where she spent her formative years as the youngest of five siblings. Sarita obtained her secondary education from North Central High School and later pursued higher education at Benedict College in Columbia, SC. Subsequently, she attended Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC, further enhancing her academic and professional pursuits. Her athletic inclinations drew her to participate in several sports, but she found her footing with Collegiate Golf.

Today, Sarita is the owner of Alpha Health & Wellness. Her company offers chiropractic adjustments of the spine and extremities and a wide variety of therapeutic modalities. These include athletic massage, cupping, therapeutic ultrasound, cryotherapy, and heat therapy.

Sarita says, “I opened Alpha Health & Wellness at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. I had completed my associateship of 1.5 years in Fishers, IN, and decided it was time to bet on myself and make a major move. I started branding and growing a following with weight loss management before moving fully to chiropractic care. My journey in creating my practice was one of determination, perseverance, and sacrifice. Following my graduation from Benedict College, I began my career at IU Health Pathology Lab while waiting for acceptance into medical school. Despite being waitlisted at two colleges and ultimately denied, I remained resolute in my desire to pursue a career in healthcare. During this time, I enrolled in chiropractic school and worked tirelessly, often spending my vacations at IU Health to clock in extra hours. Upon completing my studies at Sherman College of Chiropractic, I continued working long hours at the lab while dedicating myself to providing exceptional chiropractic care to my patients. Over three years, I labored tirelessly, saving every paycheck to create a permanent home for Alpha Health & Wellness. I realized that dream when I initiated the build-out process for the office that now stands proudly in downtown Indianapolis, IN. The space was designed with the utmost care and attention to the needs of my patients, and I remain committed to delivering the highest standards of care to everyone who walks through our doors.”

Despite being waitlisted at two colleges and ultimately denied, I remained resolute in my desire to pursue a career in healthcare.

Sarita says most enjoyable part of her career involves giving people hope that there are alternative ways to become pain-free and healthier. “I love seeing them coming in one way and leaving out better than before. I also love working with so many different kinds of people. I love my athletes because they keep injuries interesting, but I also love my regular desk workers and laborers as well.”

Sarita admits that her business is no different from any other business. COVID-19 made a huge impact on the way she operates. Still, being the savvy businesswoman she is, Sarita adjusted and has positioned her company as a leader in her field, growing faster than she anticipated. “Mainly, I wasn’t expecting it to explode as a new business owner as quickly as it did. As a result of being an essential worker, I ended up being a true resource for individuals to try and get help on a one-on-one basis. As a chiropractor, many aspects of one’s life affect their overall health. During this challenging time, I became a therapist, social worker, marriage counselor, and whatever people needed me for,” she says.

Like most business owners, Sarita has faced her share of challenges. She shares, “Acquiring the title of a chiropractor was no easy feat, but the real challenge arose when I became a business owner. My education had not prepared me for the complexities of managing and growing a business, leaving me to navigate uncharted territories. From handling finances to marketing strategies and serving as the front desk manager, I had to don multiple hats. However, with time, I learned to delegate tasks and sought guidance from various resources, including free business classes and programs. Every day, I encountered new challenges, but I persisted by listening to my patients’ suggestions and finding ways to implement them effectively. I constantly strive to grow my business with the right intention and remain open to suggestions while conducting thorough research. Astonishingly, tasks such as social media management would create anxiety for me. I decided to outsource them to someone who loved doing it to alleviate that problem. Despite the obstacles, I remained steadfast in building a successful business.”

Since returning to her home of Indianapolis, Sarita says she has become an active member of the National Association of Women Business Owners, Young Professionals of Central Indiana, and a proud supporter of Helping Veterans and Families Indiana. “I know it takes so much to see a community grow, and giving back is truly important to me.”

Looking towards the future, Sarita says her vision is to provide a positive chiropractic experience to everyone seeking their services. She also says it’s her passion to share the knowledge she’s acquired through her education and apply it to enhance the health and wellness of her patients. “My ultimate objective is to create a welcoming space where people can get answers to their health-related questions and receive holistic chiropractic care. I’m committed to making our office a hub of well-being, where every person leaves feeling heard, cared for, and empowered to live a fulfilling life.” To learn more about Alpha Health & Wellness, please visit their website.
