FBE Field Joint Coating Equipment SEMI-AUTOMATIC COATING EQUIPMENT The Coating equipment was developed by TESI to include a wide scope of automation for the application of epoxy powder coating, FBE, to field joints. TESI Coating Equipment is user friendly and safety is guaranteed during correct operating procedures. Various operating and safety features have been added to improve efficiency. TESI Coating Equipment is composed by two main parts, Fluid Bed and Powder Ring. Both parts are controlled by a single control panel. TESI Coating Equipment is equipped with a PLC that controls the functions and with an inverter to adjust the operation and speed of the motors.

TESI Coating Equipment key features The Coating Equipment has been developed with the following features that are applicable to a wide range of field operations including but not limited to, land lines , spoolbases and offshore pipelaying projects.

Fluid Bed • • • •

Equipped with a dual tank. Uses a special maintenance free porous plastic material capable of providing uniform fluidization. Can fluidize any kind of epoxy powder. Equipped with pneumatically operated shut off valves which are used to select powder pump / powder head. In case of dual tank, 4 valves instead of 2 are installed so that dual layer coatings can be applied. • Equipped with valves to adjust / control powder quantity. • Equipped with high efficiency blower motors that supply air to fluidize the powder and to assist with the operation of the venturi pumps.

Opening and closing is pneumatically operated. Latching system is pneumatically operated. Has the capability to hold the ring closed on the pipe even in the event that the emergency pushbutton has been pressed. The open and close commands are controlled by tilt switches so that it is only possible to open the ring when it is in the correct position preventing possible injuries and damage to the equipment. Adjustable rotation speed. Interchangeable spray heads. Adjustable spray heads. High temperature wheels. Motors are equipped with over temperature switches. Umbilical cables/tubes are protected inside a Kevlar sleeve.

Overall Features • Semi-automatic cycles that include rotation movement, start of fluid bed blowers and opening of powder valves. Sequence is predefined for optimum results but can also be adjusted in case of special needs. Number of turns/rotation reverse commands are manually operated. • Controls for two separate powder valves with the option to enable one (N°1 or N°2) or both. • Controlled stop sequence in semi-automatic cycle, that includes closing of the powder valves, time to purge the powder hoses, stop of the rotation movement when top position is reached. • The fully automatic cycle performs the whole sequence, startup, number of turns, stop. • Repeatable quality. • Reduced labor requirements. • Improved accuracy of application. • Improved overlap area quality. • Ability to overlay manual operations (partial turns for instance) to the automatic cycle and switch back to automatic to complete the application sequence.
