How to control the selection of elements in Revit? The requirement of controlling element selection is felt throughout the design development process by AEC professionals, as only necessary elements can be chosen for performing specific design activities. For example, when it comes to interference detection in Revit, design and construction professionals have to select the specific elements of the linked file for checking them against the elements of the host file, in such cases specific tools have to be utilized by Revit users. Use following options for controlling the selection of elements in Revit
For accessing important options meant for controlling element selection in Revit, users are required to go to Modify tab and click Select option for enlarging drop-down menu. Within the drop-down menu various options are available for the selections of elements in Revit such as Select link, Select underlay element, Select pinned elements, Select element by face and Drag elements on selection. So when it comes to the selection of linked files and their specific elements, design and construction professionals have to utilize Select link option. In any Revit project, linked files may include CAD files, Revit models and point clouds. So if anyone of the above mentioned file is linked in a current Revit project, users are required to optimize Select link option for selecting their elements. For selecting the entire linked file users are required to put the cursor over the link and then click it when it is effectively highlighted. On the other hand when it comes to the selection of specific elements of the linked file users are required to move the cursor above the element and after which they should press TAB for highlighting it. Once the element is highlighted users can click it for selecting it. Whereas when Revit users want to select the elements which are incorporated in an underlay, they are required to use Select Underlay Elements option that is available in the drop-down menu. If in case Revit users are looking forward to select pinned elements which cannot be moved by users from their place, they are required to use Select Pinned Elements option from the drop-down menu. When it comes to dragging an element without its selection, Drag Elements on Selection option should be used.
In this way element selection can be easily controlled by Revit users.
