Methods and techniques used by Revit users for sharing design information Effective distribution of design information among design teams is tremendously crucial for creating faultless design for architecture, structure and MEP Services. All the Revit disciplines (Revit Architecture, Revit Structure and Revit MEP) are effectively designed by Autodesk which eventually lead to the successful coordination of geometrical informing among design teams. Different approaches are followed by design and construction professionals for sharing design information in Revit. For example when it comes to coordinating design changes within a discipline then design and construction professionals make use of ‘Worksharing’ which is a crucial Revit feature that reinforces effective communication. Worksharing is a Revit feature which allows design team members of a specific discipline to communicate design changes as and when they are implemented in the model. For this they have to make use of central model that is kept in a shared location in Revit. All the team members make a copy of this central model and save it to their workstations so that they can work effectively and independently. Now all the design team members are connected to central model which can be referred by them for updating their knowledge about design changes. Whenever a design member (BIM modeler) finds it appropriate to make necessary alterations in the model he or she can also update those changes in the central model. By implementing save to central option, design changes can be updated in the central model. Team members working on the project can view all the development in the design only by accessing central model. When central model is accessed by the modelers they can see the latest changes made in the design which ultimately helps in erasing their confusions. Now when it comes to sharing interdisciplinary design information file linking is the best option. For example design team members involved in the creation of architectural model, can link MEP or structural models into their project for coordinating design changes. They can get complete details about the elements of the linked model which allow them to make effective changes in their design. Sometimes changes can be made by the modelers in the host model for avoiding interferences between the elements of the linked model, as they can effectively view the positioning of the linked elements.
