Copy/Monitor tool: Right method of using this in Revit!



Revit provides an effective platform for design and documentation which is used by design and construction professionals for developing high-end Building Information Models that are optimized by them in different phases of building construction.



This makes it highly necessary for users to understand the technicalities of using Revit’s distinctive tools such as Copy/Monitor tool and Coordination review tool which are quintessential for users in revamping the quality of 3D models.



Copy/Monitor tool is largely used by AEC professionals during multidiscipline coordination for copying and monitoring elements. When it comes to coordinating changes across disciplines Copy/Monitor tool is highly essential.



Reducing mistakes is one of the most challenging tasks when multidiscipline teams collaborate on a building project and this can be achieved only if the work is effectively monitored and coordinated among multiple teams.

Use Copy/Monitor tool effectively in Revit 

The Copy/Monitor tool which is highly essential for copying and monitoring elements is located on ‘Coordinate panel’ on the Collaborate tab.

The various other tools that are located on the same panel wherein Copy/Monitor resides include ‘Coordination Review’ ‘Coordination Settings’ ‘Reconcile Hosting’ and Interference check.

When Revit users click on ‘Copy/Monitor tool, a drop-down menu appears in front of them which incorporates two essential tools which includes ‘Current Project tool’ and ‘Select Link tool.’

When Revit users have linked another model into their current project the ‘Current Project’ tool allows them to select the items or elements from their current project. On the other hand users cannot select elements of the linked model with the support of Current Project tool.

If Revit users want to select the elements from a linked model then they have to make use of ‘Select Link’ tool from the drop down menu.

As users cannot select the elements of linked model with the assistance of Current Project tool, similarly they cannot select the elements of the current project with the assistance of Select Link tool.

For example a structural model is linked in an architectural model, then for selecting the elements of a linked structural model Revit users have to click on ‘Copy/Monitor’ tool and then from the drop down menu they should select ‘Select Link’ tool for selecting structural elements.

Elements can be selected either for copying in the current project for monitoring or for monitoring the elements of the current project by comparing them to the elements of the linked model.
