Structural steel detailing is a very familiar term when it comes to the design and construction of steel structures. Structural detailing or structural steel detailing is performed by design and construction professionals for constructing powerful structural framework which has the ability to bear the burden or load of the complete building. Structure of a building plays a major part in the integration of different building disciplines. In fact we can say that it is instrumental in holding different parts of a building together. Apart from the aesthetics of the building that is its looks, architects and engineers also focus on its durability. When we talk about durability it means the ability of a building to cope up with pressure or loads. And structural framework is wholeheartedly accountable for the durability of a building in question. So for developing high end structural design it is compulsory to execute structural steel detailing services. The involvement of steel detailers is indispensable in the process of steel detailing who perform all the detailing work for structural components. During steel detailing process detailed drawings are created for structural components wherein in concrete information is provided about them. Structural steel shop drawings are an important output of steel detailing process wherein information related to fabrication of steel parts is provided. For developing structural steel shop drawings detailers require detailed information about structural components which is provided to them from different sources. That means inputs are collected from structural engineers, architects and contractors etc for preparing comprehensive structural steel shop drawings. As mentioned earlier that these drawings are used by steel fabricators hence it is extremely crucial that accurate information is contained in them concerning the dimensions of steel parts such as correct length and breadth of the components and material specifications etc. For manufacturing structural steel framework fabricators have to cut and then weld steel parts together and for doing so they have to refer shop drawings. What generally happens is that plans are developed individually by architects and engineers and these plans are then provided to steel detailers based on which they develop shop drawings. Erection drawings are also developed during steel detailing process by detailers apart from steel shop drawings. Again after getting inputs from structural engineers erection drawings are developed which provide information about how to erect a structure. Erection drawings cannot be used by anybody else apart from steel erectors as they contain information about how to assemble steel parts while erecting a structure.
