What is the reason behind linking a file in a host model

What is the reason behind linking a file in a host model? Well file linking is an intrinsic part of working in a Revit project. Sometimes design development team members have to link multiple files in their model. Modelers working on a Revit project often feel the necessity to link a file in their host model for gaining information. Revit users have to link a file when they feel that they don’t have enough of information with them to develop the model. While design development teams develop the models for different building disciplines they often link one another’s model in their own model to understand the design complexities and technicalities. Models can be linked to share the design information which is paramount for modelers to develop accurate models. Models can also be linked by design development team members for checking interference in Revit. For example to check interference between two Revit models which are developed by the modelers for different building disciplines it becomes mandatory for them to link each other’s model for tackling interference issues.

If in case MEP engineers want to see if their model elements are interfering with the model elements of structural model or not, they have to link structural model in the MEP model to figure out interference issues. In other words to understand and rectify the interference issues between structural model and MEP model either structural engineer has to link MEP model in his structural model or MEP engineers have to link structural model in their MEP model. Interference can be detected between two different model elements in Revit belonging to different building disciplines. To optimize the model that is linked in a host model it is important for Revit users to share the coordinates. In other words once a model is imported in a host model it is a must for Revit users to share their coordinates for optimizing the linked model. Coordinates can be acquired and shared by Revit users both from the host model and from the linked model. So in this way by linking a file Revit users can successfully share important information among each other and can clear all their design related doubts.
