JOURNAL OF MARKETING INFORMATION

Mr. Paolo Celeri Business Development Director, describes the technological experience of Tesmec in the cold climate stringing equipment system.

Russia - 2004

PRE-HEATING TECHNOLOGIES EXPERIENCE “NOT COLD ATTITUDE BUT ATTITUDE FOR COLD!” Since the crea on of the company, Tesmec S.p.A. considers the customer sa sfac on as main target of all its efforts. Furthermore different needs in the most tough job sites in the world are a con nuous push to technological improvement. Tesmec sold machines since 1951 in over 120 countries worldwide from the ho est deserts to the frozen sub Polar Regions. So facing cold climates is a well-known issue for Tesmec since the beginning of its 60 years history.

Northern Europe - 1965

Important milestone of pre-hea ng Tesmec technology was in 1993 when Tesmec development special PullerTensioner machine, detachable for helicopter transporta on, for Canada. This set of machines and accessories were used in Labrador during winter with

average temperature between -35°C to -55°C. That was a challenge environment temperature requirement: • Star ng and opera ng temperature ll -40°C • Sta c outdoor temperature -40°C to -60°C The en re machine was designed and manufactured with special grade steel, special Diesel engine configura on, dedicated electrical wiring and instruments, silicon parts and seals assembled instead of natural rubber ones, automa c pre-hea ng system with special fuel burners. Preliminary inspec on to the job-sites before designing and training a er machines and accessories arrival on sites were carried out with high sa sfac on of the customer.

With this relevant experience Tesmec consolidate the necessary technologies to face cold climate for Stringing Equipment. In the last 10 years this pre-hea ng system became an available system to be installed in all Tesmec product lines; this device can be pre-arranged for different cold temperature ranges. The standard device in Tesmec catalogue, ALL037, is prearranged to guarantee an op mal star ng and func oning in the temperature range between -30°C to -10°C; over -10°C standard machine configura on is enough to operate. Since 2003, Tesmec produced a large number (more than 120 units) of machines assembled with the pre-hea ng device and currently they are working in different cold countries (e.g. Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Kazakhstan, North East of China, Chile and so on). Tesmec esmecMag 01#2012 TECHNICAL FEATURES This addi onal device can be added on almost all Tesmec stringing machines, except small winches, very small pullers and passive tensioners. This device is composed by a special burner and by a hea ng circuit that uses the cooling liquid of the diesel engine.

10

The pre-hea ng device warms up the following units: • Diesel engine fuel tank • Fuel delivery to diesel engine • Hydraulic oil tank The pre – hea ng device is available in two versions: 1. Basic – to be installed on 12 V machines 2. Advanced – to be installed on 24 V machines The dedicated control unit is also characterized by a digital mer that enables the operators to pre-set the star ng of the heater up to 7 days in advance.

11

The fuel for the burner has to be composed according to the following technical specifica ons (DIN51601): • 70% winter diesel • 30% petroleum or kerosene The diesel engine liquid reaches the correct working temperatures in about 15 minutes (star ng from the device igni on), while the temperature of the hydraulic oil in the tank increases of about 10°C every 30 minutes. The device includes also special gel ba eries for use in cold condi ons for both diesel engine and electrical system. The devices characterized by the presence of a special cover to protect the exposed radiator units and to avoid the presence of snow or ice on blades.

LOCAL SERVICES The new version of the pre-hea ng system can be assembled even a er the delivery of the machine of some par cular models. Some of our service centres as Russia and USA can also made the retrofit locally. For further informa on please contact the local server.
