Mr. Sergio Daminelli, sales manager of Tesmec Stringing Division, describes the advantages of the new technology for multiple conductors stringing machines.

NEW TECHNOLOGYŠ FOR MULTIPLE CONDUCTOR STRINGING MACHINES Electricity demand is increasing worldwide and as a result several new OHTL on major transmission networks are designed with an increased number of bundled conductors per phase. New world-wide projects also show the trend to increase voltage of power lines up to 1200 kV (UHV = Ultra High Voltage Power Lines).

electronic solutions integrated into our products by our experienced and top-notch research, engineering and manufacturing departments.

The construction of such tension line with 4,5,6 or 8 bundled conductors, with increased sections up to 1000 mm2, requires a very high stringing force value during the installation. Furthermore, contractors want to string all of the conductors of the same phase at the same time. Tesmec embraced this opportunity by developing and utilizing new

One operator from one main control panel handles all the operation, introducing the The new technology is to use multiple machines in concept of the “Modular Machines”. synchronization. By using two sets of “traditional” machines and by The solution proposed is to use a series of pullers linking the machines together, it is possible to reach and tensioners linked in parallel and synchronized the result to string 6 or 8 bundle conductors.

TesmecMag 02#2013 THE MODULAR MACHINE CONCEPT The Modular Machines Concept is based on a special electronic design that allows a connection of several similar machines, making them working as one. This electronic system, called Electronic Multiple Machines Connecting System (EMMCS)©, allows similar machines electronically connected to operate simultaneously, controlled and operated by one single operator at one single machine called the master machine. Another feature of this new design is the Electronic Speed Synchronizing System (ESSS)©, which allows the pulling of independent ropes at the same speed by comparing the speed of each single rope to the reference value on the master machine and by continuous adjusting of the single speed to grant the same operative speed in all the machines.

The new electronic management drive unit was developed based on automotive philosophy, with application to a wide range of working conditions in terms of vibration, humidity and temperature. Our extensive testing was done in laboratories and directly on job sites, showing great reliability and high performance.

Main Features • Possible to control a series of identical machines by one operator from one machine only. • When the machines are in pulling mode, it is possible to accurately synchronize the speed of all the pulling ropes. • With all machines in synchronization safety is enhanced because they will all stop at the same time if an issue arises.

TesmecMag 02#2013 ADVANTAGES OF THE MODULAR TECHNOLOGY • Machines and tools are standard and available. • No extra working load rates on stringing machines, pilot wires, accessories and tools, so standard accessories and tools can be used, even if the total load is equal or larger than on the traditional method. • Less reel changes with use of smaller diameter hard line wire utilizing longer sections. • The same machine can perform very different projects, with a versatility and flexibility never experienced before.

CONCLUSION Tesmec is the pioneer in modular technology. The reliability of this solution can be seen by the number of projects completed and in process with our equipment by the biggest contractors in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and North America. This methodology is warmly suggested by Tesmec to install HEXA (Lapwing) and OCTA (moose) projects in India.
