Mr. Alberto Oscar Technical director of Stringing Equipment Division, describes technical characteristics and advantages of Tesmec Swivel Joints.

SWIVEL JOINTS Tesmec design, manufacture and supply a complete range of high quality swivel joints.

Swivel joints are made of high tensile galvanised steel to resist to the pulling force and to avoid corrosion.

Swivel joints are suitable to connect the pulling rope to the mesh sock joint.

Joints are composed of two bodies that can rotate to avoid torsion strain during stringing operations.

They are used also to connect the steel rope to the head board chain and the Tesmec R&D and Technical Department conductor to the head board body. check every single swivel joint before the sale because safety is a mandatory requirement for Tesmec. Every model is tested once a year to control quality standards and breaking load parameters. Tesmec swivel joint offer efficiency to every job. This is the reason why Tesmec manufacture and sell around 2500 pieces per year.

TesmecNews 02#2011 TECHNICAL ADVANTAGES Joints are assembled with thrust bearing which allows angular degree of freedom. In this way the swivel can slightly bend to adapt itself to the pulley’s groove. Despite of this possibility of movement and free rotation capability, joints offer high ratio between resistance and weight.

1

Every swivel is assembled with two removable pulleys to connect the steel rope or the mesh sock. Pulleys can rotate to adjust joint to the pulling direction. They are made of high tensile galvanised steel to reduce the scratch or marking that can occur after many uses. Pulleys’ pivots are made of the same high tensile galvanised steel and they can be easily removed with an hexagon key. Dimensions and material have been studied to let easily unscrew the pivot even in case of overloads. Pulleys and pivots are designed to totally stay into the shape of the swivel joint avoiding friction or resistance passing through pulleys’ grooves.

2

Tesmec swivel joints are specifically designed considering the performance of the maximum acceptable steel rope (quote “C” in the drawing) in terms of diameter and breaking load. Maintenace operations on Tesmec swivel joints are not required.

TesmecNews 02#2011 Manufacturer, model, work shop order (W.S.O), year of production and breaking load are marked on the body of the product in a permanent way giving the operator the chance to check performance before the use on job site. Furthermore Tesmec can keep the traceability of its equipment.

A

There are different models of swivel joints to meet all customer requests.

B C

Every model is available in the US version with pin for screwdriver and braking load marked in “lb” instead of “kN”. Special version can be available on demand.
