Translation – An epic journey • Wix took a strategic initiative to take its platform, features and capabilities and localize them to fit the special needs of our non-US users • This included: – Internationalization (I18N) - Infrastructure – Create “Language Ready” products – Create internationalized products – Support Right to Left languages
– Localization (L10N) - Market specific needs
– Payment Methods, Currencies, Numbers & Symbols, Weights & Measures, Date and time format, etc. – Different view/look per country (images, color palettes, layout, unique components, etc.) – Government regulations (privacy, tax, etc.)
– Translation (The focus of this presentation)
– Offering different text depending on users preferred language – This is easy to understand, but quite hard to implement…

Continuous {{buzz word}} Wix strongly believe in Continuous Integration and is now presenting Continuous Translation Continuous Integration “The practice, of merging all developer working copies with a shared mainline several times a day. Relies heavily on TDD. (Wikipedia)
Continuous Translation The practice of merging new translated text in complete transparency, and decoupled from the developers workflow. This mode allows for upload of resources to the staging & production environments without the need of additional resources (other than the release manager). This makes for a fast turn around, and is language dependent free.
Project assumptions and definitions • •
Translation workflow is to be decoupled from the developers and application code Adding new text to the application does not require a developer, nor is it bounded by time or progress – Can be done by the Product owner separately and in advance
• • •
Introduction of new languages is agnostic to the code state and the developers workflow Pushing new translations to production, should be safe – no code upload to go with it Translation platform provides a quality control capability, hence no in-house QA is required!
