The task Temperature and humidity measurements are required in the Deutsches Museum for various reasons: • Exhibits such as the keyboard instruments of the musical instrument collection are particularly sensitive to temperature and humidity. Climate values and limit value violations must be reliably monitored, stored and documented. • Some exhibition rooms can develop into climatically critical areas depending on the weather conditions. Against this background,
the measuring instruments must be flexibly applicable and easy to use. • The adherence to agreed temperature and humidity values must be provable to lenders. For this reason, the climate data must be clearly, uninterruptedly and graphically documented in weekly or monthly reports.

The testo 175 H1 data loggers are characterized by a wide measurement range, a high level of accuracy and by reliablility, flexibility and operational convenience. Longlife batteries, a battery status display, a large storage capacity, as well as a wall bracket included in delivery, are further benefits. Added to this are easy progamming by USB cable, readout of data also by SD card, and report creation in the form of climatic graphs among other options. With the measurement data monitoring system testo Saveris, the Deutsches Museum has fully automated the monitoring of ambient conditions, initially in an especially critical area, the musical instrument collection. If upper or lower limit values are exceeded, testo Saveris alarms the sanitation and heating technicians of the museum by SMS or e-mail.
Benefits for the customer
The customer
The Testo data loggers are used for stationary and single-point measurements at the Deutsches Museum. They record the ambient values in depositories, exhibitions, showcases and glass displays. With their help, it is possible at any time to determine whether valuable exhibits are in danger due to humidity, heat or cold, whether the humidifying system in a room needs to be switched on, or whether an exhibition may even need to be temporarily closed due to the high summer temperatures. The automation and alarm options of the measurement data monitoring system testo Saveris additionally offer the highest level of productivity and convenience.
The Deutsches Museum, founded 1903 in Munich, is today the most heavily frequented museum in Germany, with 1.3 million visitors annually. It displays objects from around 50 areas of the natural sciences and technology over an area of 73,000 m². The objective of the museum’s management is to bring scientific and technical insights closer to the visitors in an understandable way. In addition to the main building on Museum Island, further attractions are the aviation museum Flugwerft Schleissheim and the traffic centre at Theresienhoehe, as well as the Deutsches Museum Bonn.
