EPICMASTERPIECES Two Magnificent Performances. One Glorious Event.
Composer: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Choreographer: George Balanchine
Be swept away in a beautiful wave of grace and wonder by the first ballet Balanchine choreographed in America. As Tchaikovsky’s Serenade in C for String Orchestra unfolds, Balanchine masterfully highlights each performer’s amazing talent. Celebrating the 79th anniversary of its creation, Serenade is now a staple in the repertoires of ballet companies around the world.
GLORIA Composer: Francis Poulenc Choreographer: Sir Kenneth MacMillan
Following Serenade, patrons will be treated to the North Texas premiere of Sir Kenneth McMillan’s Gloria. Inspired by Vera Brittain’s lament for the dead of the Great War in her autobiographical novel, Testament of Youth, this legendary choreographer’s ballet visually mourns all the lives cut short or blighted by war. Dramatic. Intense. Engrossing. Experience this moving contemplation of mortality.
