WELCOME TDA Members & Guests to the 18th Annual Texas Deer Association Convention!!!
I
t’s no secret the last year has been one of the toughest the Texas deer industry has ever faced. There has been a great deal of uncertainty and concern throughout the last 13 months, but I am proud to say that our TDA family has remained strong and unshaken! We are thousands of members strong, all across the great state of Texas and beyond. And this weekend is all about you! Our Annual Convention is definitely the time to celebrate our hard work and determination in the face of all the past year’s obstacles! This year’s theme—“BIG DEER, BIG FUN!”—reflects the spirit of optimism and encouragement that has kept our industry growing strong through it all. A sincere “thank you” to each and every one of you in attendance today… welcome to the largest gathering of deer enthusiasts in the entire country, right here in the beautiful San Antonio Hill Country. The success of this convention depends on all of you—our guests, our members, our vendors, our sponsors, and our volunteers. Our 18th Annual Convention kicks off this year on Thursday, August the 11th, with our 13th Annual TDA Bobby Marburger Memorial Golf Tournament at 8am, presented by Caveman Wildlife. Join us for our Kick-Off Luncheon sponsored by Rockstar Whitetails starting at 12pm. There will be a number of informative panel discussions and forums that afternoon, so please check your agenda for details. And don’t forget, the exhibit hall opens to visitors at 2pm. That evening, we will host our Family Fun Casino Night and Annual Poker Tournament, starting at 7pm! On Friday, August 12th, there will be another round of breakout sessions featuring informative speakers and panels discussing the most current industry topics. We are also pleased to offer a
1
Family Hunter Safety Certification class that day from 9am-4pm! See your program for more details. The Superior Genetics Whitetail Deer Auction will begin at 1pm. Complimentary margaritas and beer will be served before our 6pm dinner, leading up to the Sportsmen’s Roundup & Hunter’s Auction that night, sponsored by the Hoffpauir Group. Stay up late for some musical entertainment provided by the Kyle Park Band, thanks to Derby Sand Ranch and G2 Ranch. Hey, parents: Don’t forget—child care will be provided from 9am-11:30pm that day—don’t forget to pre-register your kiddos for this special fun and games time just for them! Saturday is an action-packed day full of big deer, big lots, and big fun—see your agenda for more information. Of course, the TDA Select Sale begins at 1pm in the Cibolo Canyon Ballroom. The evening’s events begin at 5pm, when you are invited to socialize in the foyer with complimentary margaritas and beer before our 6pm dinner. The awards presentation will begin at 6pm, followed by the Grand Auction. Our evening closes out with a live performance by Kristy Lee Cook, presented by Derby Sand Ranch and G2 Ranch. And don’t forget, the kids can enjoy a special Movie Night just for them from 5:30-10pm! All times subject to change; please refer to your agenda for the latest information on the convention schedule. It’s time to CELEBRATE, TDA! Thank you for attending our 18th Annual Convention, and for your continued support of YOUR Texas Deer Association. Sincerely, PATRICK TARLTON

Please consider donating a high quality deer, deer semen or another item* as an auction item. These donations benefit your TDA Political Action Committee (PAC). *Items may be included in the silent auction or live auction at the discretion of the TDA staff.
WHY SHOULD I DONATE TO THE TDA PAC? TDA leads the way in the deer industry as the largest organization in the state dedicated to protecting the rights of both the landowner and the hunter. PAC donations have allowed TDA to affect legislation and impact regulations relating to the deer industry. The TDA PAC was formed to protect YOU! To succeed, we must have a say in what happens in Austin - and in who is elected to represent us in Austin - because Texas has state laws that regulate our ability to do business. As an individual, you may not be able to influence legislation or regulation but, collectively, we can make sure our voices are heard. We face continual threats from opponents who want to impose their preferences on landowners and deer managers like never before! We MUST continue to elect and support legislators who support our industry!
TDA PAC Auction Consignments will be available for bidding in the
TDA GRAND LIVE AUCTION & TDA SILENT AUCTION, AUGUST 13, 2016 For questions regarding donations, please contact auctions@texasdeerassociation.com In January 2017, the 85th Texas Legislature will convene at the Texas Capitol. Legislators from across the state will return to Austin, charged with deciding many important issues facing our industry today. Issues like SPRING RELEASE, EXTERNAL ID TAGS, CWD TESTING PERCENTAGES, and PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS will be the topic of discussion and debate this coming legislative session. Your TDA PAC contributions help defend our rights as landowners, businessmen, deer farmers, hunters, and entrepreneurs. Your commitment to the TDA PAC ensures our industry has a voice in Austin. 26

Monty Carnell Rifle
In 1998 Ben & Kay Mayberry gave Monty the gun as a Christmas present, they gave me $1000 cash. At the time we were only making $800 a month and as tight as those 2 are it was a huge gift. Monty couldn't wait to get a scope for it so we drove all the way to Buda a few days later, with me having no idea how much a scope cost. Needless to say, after tax I go home with $40 left from my Christmas gift. Move forward to 2008 I'm still complaining about spending ALL my money and 10 years later he hasn't even SHOT IT ONE TIME! So one day he takes Nicole for target shooting and grabs the rifle. When they get back home he VERY PROUDLY announces (with that smarta$$ grin of his) that he only "shot it one time since it's a single shot" and puts it right back in the gun rack never to be used again. Ever time he told the story he would laugh and laugh and laugh. I didn't think it was funny AT ALL! But it's a little history & a great Monty story. Please show it as presented by Nicole Carnell as request by her dad a month before he passed. SALE PRICE & NOTES:

Celebrating a Decade of Advocacy for the Texas Deer Industry
What is the TDA PAC and why should I give to it? TDA PAC is an investment to help protect, improve and promote the deer industry in our great state. Opponents to our industry want to impose their ideals on landowners and deer enthusiasts, and create unnecessary government regulations which costs our deer industry and our state thousands of dollars each year. Your donation helps to support legislators who understand our issues and hear our concerns, as well as, to promote our message to others. “Their knowledge of our industry is our biggest asset .”** The success of our legislative efforts in Austin have a significant impact on our industry’s future. Thank you for your support! For more information on the TDA PAC visit www.texasdeerassociation.com **Quotes from The Honorable Bill Brewster
