TEXAS DOG MAGAZINE TEXAS DOG MAGAZINE
March means that Texas Dog Magazine is officially five years old! I can’t believe it!
March is one of my favorite months because the weather, while unpredictable, is getting nice.
If your family is anything like mine, you’re committed to spending more time outdoors.
We’re trying to achieve 100 hours outside. Another perk to spring coming and daylight savings ending is our blind dog being able to see light and shadow for more hours per day. She truly enjoys being able to “see” in her own way.
What activities will you commit to doing with your pup this month? Visiting restaurants? Hiking? Walks?
Thanks as always for reading!
Barks,

KNOW A DOG IN NEED?
CUDDLY and Texas Organizations will present “Dallas Pets are Family Day,” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 at Dallas County Tax Office (8301 S Polk St, Dallas, 75232).
Several Texas based organizations are coming together with CUDDLY, a crowdfunding site focused on animals, to offer a day of free pet food, vaccines, microchips, and more to pet families Supplies and services are first come, first served
The North Texas Food Bank reports that an estimated 800,000 people in North Texas face food insecurity, an issue impacting not only people, but pets as well. The rising cost of living often can result in families making difficult decisions.
From October through December 2022, 27% of dogs and cats taken in by Dallas Animal Services were surrendered by owners to an already overcrowded shelter.
Keeping pets at home, when they already have families that love them, is a key component to preventing shelter overcrowding.
Based on last year’s Dallas and Fort Worth events, organizers of “Dallas Pets Are Family Day” expect to distribute more than 30,000 pounds of pet food, and give up to 400 vaccines and microchips, in addition to vouchers for spay/neuter services.
Those interested in supporting this event can donate food and supplies to be distributed by visiting cuddly.com/petpantry.

From the Pocket of an Overcoat is based on the real-life story of a cat named Max adopted by Vincent's son Matthew from a homeless woman in Dallas who found Max as a tiny kitten and had him in the pocket of her overcoat as she was trying to find him a home. The tale is about how Max finds himself and his way to a new home with Farmer Buckles and his other animals, including four dogs Sam, Tots, Scotty, and Junior Buckles. Along the way, he discovers a true sense of belonging within his new family.
