BECAUSE OF YOU... More of the stunning forests, prairies, rivers, and bayous that make Texas special are protected each year. Here is a quick snapshot of what we accomplished together in 2016:

goal

Unfortunately, Texas has one of the highest levels of endangered species in any state. Because of you, these species - including the golden-cheeked warbler, the Houston toad, and the Devil’s River minnow - are finding safe haven in the properties and watersheds we protect. We focus on conserving land in six watersheds in Texas including the Llano, Pedernales, Brazos, Trinity, Neches, and the Medina rivers. These watersheds are under the highest threat for over-development, water pollution, and water consumption. Together, we are protecting our land and water - from where the first rain drop falls, through our rivers, and With your help, we strive to conserve natural areas in Texas and to protect the physical and ecological integrity of their wildlife habitat, native plant communities, and scenic landscapes for the benefit of present and future generations.

Land, Water & People Our mission is to protect the land, water, wildlife and heritage of Texas today and into the future. We could not do this without you - our friends, members, supporters and conservation champions. In 2016 we went to work implementing new technology for conservation, reaching out to more communities, and collaborating with landowners to protect their farms and ranches across the state. Below are just a few examples of those stories. The protection of private land often happens in fits and starts. This year was different. We were fortunate to have several projects wrap up in 2016, and we were especially proud to protect a couple of large-scale properties. With your support, we conserved Willow Glen Plantation in Brazoria County, which protects nearly 3,000 acres of the threatened Columbia Bottomlands ecosystem.

Who who whooo else is affected by all of this great conservation work happening across the state? The burrowing owl and other threatened and endangered species, that’s who! Many of the properties protected with TLC this year, and in years past, are home to creatures big and small who are losing their homes to rampant development across the state. Because of you, these species are thriving on privately protected lands.

But that is not our only land protection success story this year - RRR Ranch in Fayette County was donated by Robert and Melissa Rabalais - protecting 620 acres of beautiful forests and wetlands along Owl Creek. Thank you for this generous donation!

Speaking of you, we’ve had a great time connecting with communities this year. Our hiking program has continued in the Hill Country - bringing together people from all walks of life to nature through naturalist-led hikes. Thank you to our volunteers who help with interpretation on these hikes, and to all of our members. These hikes are free to members all year!

What does conservation look like after we have completed the conservation easement? This year our perspective changed dramatically. Our Stewardship Director, Stephen Ramirez, has been using this technology to monitor some of our more remote conservation properties. The drone is a great tool to help us visualize the health of protected properties from the air and to give landowners a new perspective for their land.

Finally, we have had the pleasure to connect with many individuals and families who care deeply about conservation. Thank you to all of our supporters who attended the Ned Fritz Society dinner this year - we are truly blessed to work with you, and we could not do all of this great work without you.
