Ben Detwiler hoped to make the world a better place. That hope died when he was killed by a drunk driver. What should you do to stop a friend from driving drunk? Whatever you have to. Friends don’t let friends drive drunk.

Baseball & Softball Player Profiles Mineola Yellowjackets

Alba-Golden Panthers

Marisa Ledkins

Brady McBride

Garrett Wood

Jade Green

Lauren Thompson

Seth Bickerstaff

Marisa Ledkins is the outstanding second baseman for this year’s undefeated Lady Jackets. Ledkins is a solid defensive player and a line drive hitter at the plate with enough speed on the bases to turn singles into doubles.

Brady McBride is a speedster in the outfield and one of the top hitters on this years Yellowjacket baseball team. He has showed solid improvement defensively and is one of the best offensive weapons on the this years team.

Whether he’s diving to his right or left, infielder Garrett Woods helps make the Mineola Yellowjackets a solid defensive team and his hitting has shown steady improvement. There are moments when his work on defense is pure magic.

Jade “Sister” Green is a freshman starter at third base on a team ranked in the top three among 2A schools in the state. She handles everything hit at her from line drives to bunts and has one of the strongest throws across the diamond of anyone in the area.

# 7, 1st Base, Senior Lauren will be making the move from the outfield back into the infield for us this season. She did a great job for us last season in the outfield, but we feel like we need to move her back into the infield at first base. She has good range in getting to balls, and has a good arm to throw out runners who get greedy. Offensively, Lauren will be using her talents in the middle of the order. She can play the short game, or rip shots into the gaps. I look for Lauren to have a great season back in the infield.

The Alba-Golden Panther baseball Player of the Week is junior catcher Seth Bickerstaff. Seth was 5 for 8 with a homerun and triple in the Cooper Baseball Tournament where he was named All Tournament Player.

MINEOLA ANIMAL SHELTER This week’s featured adoptable pets include this male Chinese crested. ACO Steve Brandon said he has no idea how old the dog is but he was brought to the shelter. He said cresteds are “awesome dogs.” They don’t bark, shed & don’tt have problems with fleas. This little fellow has a veryy sweet personality. The bassett hound mix is also new this week. She was picked up & is a very friendly ball of energy who loves attention. THE KENNELS ARE FULL! Please help control the unwanted pet population by having your pets spayed and neutered.
