Doug Box Course Number: 3 Level: Beginning to Intermediate
Learn to shoot anytime, anywhere, indoors or outdoors. When you can’t shoot during the “sweet light “ time, or find “Great Light” outdoors you will learn how to make great photos anyway. If it is overcast and you can’t find any direction to the light and you hate that “On Camera Flash” look, Off Camera Flash is the answer! Tired of taking too much equipment on location? This is a Hands-On class where you will have several opportunities to practice your new lighting skills and get critiques of your images.
The world of photography has changed drastically over the last 15 years. Digital has brought photography to the masses and removed the “mystique” from our profession. In this class you will learn how William transformed his high volume wedding and portrait studio to a low volume portrait studio that generates sales from $5,000 to $20,000 and more. In addition to “hands on” learning of his posing techniques, William will also teach you his lighting and metering process along with how to interact with the client. With these techniques, you will be able to walk into any situation and create beautiful portraits. William will also teach you: how to find your niche, studio design, marketing, how to sell rather than being an order taker as well as his portrait finishing process. When you walk out of this class, you will be on your way to earning the money you deserve!

Carl will also cover workflow and digital darkroom techniques. This is a HANDS-ON class. You will get more time creating with models than most classes you have ever encountered before.
This years’ Corbell Class will be designed for photographers that are ready for the next step. Working pros that already know the four light patterns, broad vs. short. This is NOT a beginning lighting class. This class is for pros who know there is more, who are willing to try something new, who are ready to stretch, who are not afraid of being stuck in a box any longer. This class will require you to know shutter speeds, apertures, ISO’s camera functions, like the back of your hand. You will be given real-world assignments each day along with deadlines. Each “Daily Deadline” will have a $$$ value attached to it. We will NOT give you perfect models in beautiful studios setups with great lighting. We will however, expect great photographs. We will examine the work of the world’s top photographers as we discuss mixed lighting, using numerous unique lighting tools for primary and secondary sources and work to replicate those results. We will learn to think like a photographer. And in case you are wondering, this will NOT be an easy class. You will be challenged. Sound interesting? Come on along…
Carl is PPA Certified, a Master Photographer, Photographic Craftsman, and a Kodak Mentor. He has over twenty years experience in natural light work and a background in darkroom work as a custom printer. He is easily approachable and loves to give 110% of himself at all times. •Find light that will allow you to create portrait lighting in a natural environment indoor and out. •Find backgrounds and location that will create depth and dimensions to your work. •How to create salable images that take little to no artwork... freeing you up to move on to other guests - or your family time.
* How to think on your feet in ANY given photographic lighting situation * How to work fast and efficient in order to accomplish the job and thrill the client. * How to find satisfaction for a job not only well-done, but exceptionally well-done.
Carl has won numerous national awards for his photography, including 17 PPA Loan Collections and several Kodak Gallery and Fuji Masterpiece Awards.

Corel Painter The Artist Within
Celebrity Style Imaging Bry Cox Course Number: 7 Level: All Levels
Jim Cunningham Course Number: 8 Level: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate
Photographers come from two areas, either naturally creative or naturally technical. But we need to be great in both areas to create the best possible images and to be able to handle any photographic situation, inside or out. This however goes against our natural tendencies.
As digital photography becomes easier with new cameras that give the photographer amazing images with just the press of a button, and software and actions that can take an average image and add sizzle, it is becoming more apparent that professional photographers have a need to differentiate between themselves and everyone else.
I will share with you my system to create images that are creative and emotional while also being technically awesome. You’ll be able to do this over and over, in any situation with a variety of people, locations, and lighting options including off-camera flash, studio lighting, reflectors, and more. With this knowledge, you’ll be able to approach any situation with minimal gear and confidence.
Corel Painter gives the photographer a tool that can be used to transform photographs into art that clients will want hanging on their walls. Jim will take you step by step through the creative process, from getting familiar with the Painter interface to creating true works of art. Students should have a working knowledge of Photoshop, including layers and layer masks. Each student is encouraged to bring at least 5 images of their own to work on in class. Join Jim and unleash your inner artist.
You’ll create better images, and they will be different, fresh, and they won’t need post-production work. Everything will be nailed, your posing, lighting, exposure, and color. Everything will look beautiful without retouching or adjustments – and you’ll know how to do it quickly!
•Become as comfortable with the Painter Interface as you are with Photoshop. •Learn to Paint Portraits, Landscapes, Pastels, and a Sketch technique. •Learn to market your images.
“Celebrity Style Imaging” is the trademarked name of my studio because I photograph my day-to-day clients the same way I photograph my VIP clients – focusing on exquisite lighting, emotion, and individual character.
With 37 years of experience as a professional photographer, Jim has spoken at state and regional conventions and has presented workshops at Imaging USA twice. In 2010 Jim had the honor of teaching Corel Painter at Canada’s National Convention. Since 2001, Jim has enjoyed teaching Photoshop and Painter workshops, and is honored to be back at Texas School for his 8th year. Jim feels that digital imaging gives the photographer the ability to create what we see in our mind’s eye.
I will show you my entire system working with live models so you see my secrets of getting real emotion, believable expressions, and new poses that flatter and change from shoot to shoot. We will go through specific set-ups to create a perfect match of lighting from studio to outdoors, daylight to sunset on into twilight and total darkness. Then, with almost perfect images straight out of the camera, we will take them further with quick digital enhancement, as I will work with full disclosure, sharing what I do with everyone. No matter how fast you are, I’ll make you faster, taking the “work out of workflow” so that time spent on the computer is an investment into your sales instead of time wasted correcting images. Growing Your Studio
The Dramatic Portrait Joel Grimes Course Number: 17 Level: Intermediate
This class is a must for those who want to take the mystery out of using strobe lighting and learn to become a creative force and THINK LIKE AN ARTIST. Throw out those lighting diagrams, those annoying lighting ratios and sell your flash-meter on eBay. Well, that may be a bit drastic, but think about this; a technical instrument can never make a creative artistic decision, this is reserved for the human mind. Over the five days we will be covering how to use all sorts of modifiers such as soft boxes, the beauty dish, octagon banks, umbrellas, grids, etc., while working from an intuitive approach. This is without question the key to the whole creative process. You will be presented with ways on how to develop your personal creative vision that is unique to you. In addition we will be having a few models on site for the hands on lighting demonstration portions. Each of the attendees will have ample opportunity to experiment with the various lighting techniques covered in the lectures, so bring your basic camera kit. And not to be overlooked, we will be covering a number of Photoshop techniques used in my photographs, including the HDR techniques used for all my backgrounds, as well as masking techniques and many more. Over the five days I hold back nothing in revealing my photographic process.

The Secrets To Success When Turning Pro
Environmental Portraiture in the Real World Don MacGregor Course Number: 23 Level: Intermediate to Advanced
An intense week that focusses on defining skills that enable you to tackle virtually any portrait project, with any equipment, in any condition. Real World refers to creating images that command excellent sales from clients that are prepared to pay professional rates. You will study and practice posing and composition (individuals and groups). You will study and practice lighting with ambient conditions, reflectors and portable flash (manual and TTL). You will study and practice the process of building purchasing desire from initial contact to closing the sale. Each day will be split into two modules. One half will be lectures and demonstrations in classroom and the other half will be demonstrations and live sessions with models in the environment (whatever conditions mother nature throws at us, we will create powerful images that capture the essence of our subjects). •Posing and Composition skills for individuals and groups •Lighting controls… natural light, reflectors and flash •The “process” of creating purchasing desire and translating that into quality sales Don has operated his business in Vancouver for over 40 years and spent the last 30 years lecturing and sharing his experience with photographers across the US, Canada and Internationally. He has earned most every award for image Excellence in Canada as well as Master Photographer degrees from PPA and Canada. Testimonials from attendees consistently say that Don’s class is one of the best ever and is grounded on building confidence and skills rather than flashy photoshop images.

Don’t Gamble with Your Certification Gary & Kathryn Meek Course Number: 24 Level: Beginning
Professional credentials are not just handed out. They are EARNED. And the recipients can attest to that general fact. Photography credentials are no different, and any Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) can tell you that. There’s a lot of effort that goes into preparing for the CPP exam alone (let alone the image submission review), and that’s why the Certification Preparation Class is so important. “Everyone has their own weaknesses,” says Gary Meek, M.Photog.Cr., CPP, API, EA-ASP, Hon.EA-ASP one of the instructors of the upcoming Certification Preparation Class, along with his wife, Kathy, M.Photog.Cr., CPP, API. “That’s the beauty of this class. We can find out what the participants’ weaknesses are and concentrate on strengthening their knowledge on those points.” The Meeks are able to do that because every person who signs up for their class is sent about a hundred pages of handouts and study guides…prior to the class. You’ll get sample tests, Gary’s own white papers, a handout on histograms and even several pages of photographic formulas. Math, formulas and color theory are often some of the harder things for some to grasp. There’s actually a lot of physics and math in photography, but coming from Arkansas, they will explain it in a way anyone can understand. However, the Meek’s ability to explain these technical concepts also comes from their extensive experience. Gary’s educational degrees are in Math and Physics and Kathy is a “MASTER” when it comes to teaching lighting and posing. Gary is also one of the few PPA APPROVED CERTIFICATION INSTRUCTORS. They’ve taught preparation classes like this (for the CPP exam) since about 1991. They know their stuff. Sure, Gary would be the first to tell you when he doesn’t know something…but he’ll follow that statement up with, “But we’ll find out.” And you will.

GORGEOUS WEDDINGS & SO MUCH MORE Steve Winslow & Sophie Lane
Lora Yeater Course Number: 36 Level: Intermediate
Course Number: 35 Level: Intermediate
In part one of this action packed two-part Wedding/ Portraiture class you will learn to see behind the glitz and glamour of a Bride’s big day. You will uncover the nuts and bolts of professional wedding photography and plan for a profitable wedding business. Steve and Sophie will show you how to carefully, professionally and charismatically photograph the most important day of someone’s life. They will share with you the essential photographic tools from finding and creating beautiful light to directing comfortable, timeless, and creative posing. You’ll also learn the business of weddings and how to succeed financially in the wedding industry.
My program, “Follow Your Heart,” covers how I started my business in the basement of my home and soon had to build a bigger studio because of how quickly things grew. It also gives tips on how to set yourself apart from other photographers. I discuss how to stay resilient even through the inevitable storms that life sends our way and how to use that resiliency to help others. As a predominantly senior portrait photographer, Lora takes special care to learn each individual’s personality before they even come in for a session. She feels that she has been blessed with the ability to help others see the beauty within themselves and to capture that beauty in a portrait that will be cherished by the family for generations. Lora is a member of the Professional Photographers of West Virginia, the Professional Photographers of America, and the American Society of Photographers. She began her professional career in 2008, and in her first year of competition she earned West Virginia’s Photographer of the Year. She repeated her success as Photographer of the Year again in 2010, 2011, and most recently in 2013. As a competitor by nature against others, but also herself, she has earned the 2014 Grand Imaging Award as well as the ASP’s Gold Medallion. This competitive spirit was evident even as she was just beginning, as she obtained her Masters of Photography within her first three years of competition. This fire to continually improve and hone her skills sets her apart and is sure to keep her engulfed in the photography world for years to come.
In part two, you’ll gain unique insights into successfully transitioning your wedding clients to your life-long client base.
