CURIOUS MORPHOLOGY SS16 / CONTENTS

Designer’s Statement Specialising in Printed Textiles, I am a Surface Designer with a keen interest in Trend Forecasting, studying BA (Hons) Surface Design for Fashion and Interiors at the University of Huddersfield. Through my work, I aim to push the traditional boundaries of printed textiles, creating innovative yet trend-led pieces suitable for both fashion and interiors, highlighting the intrinsic links between these two markets. My interest in the trend forecasting process developed from spending a sandwich year as a Trend Researcher for Scarlet Opus and ensures that I am fully and personally immersed in the design development process from start to finish, and can satisfy my high personal standards entirely. Creative and experimental, I remain determined and driven; striving to create comprehensively developed and beautifully designed pieces using a combination of different print, mixed-media and digital design techniques.

Project Statement Curious Morphology for Spring/Summer 2016 is a collection of trendled, digitally printed textile room dividers. Designed for our increasingly multi-purpose homes, the screens can be assembled and re-configured to suit our ever-changing lifestyles while creating an antidotal, soothing atmosphere; we can relax and unwind in the evening, or shut out distractions during a busy day. The collection is inspired by the captivating wonders and similarities seen in the worlds of science and nature. Developments in deep-sea exploration inspire gentle ripples, the sense of fluidity and watery patterns, while coral forms, seaweeds and mesmerising creatures resemble and work in harmony with microscopic, cellular and fleshy scientific imagery inspired by human bio-technology innovations. Thoughtful and open rather than high-tech or distant, the lines, shapes and colours are gentle and reassuring with a hint of scientific newness, seamlessly easing us into an awe-inspiring season of technology and exploration. The collection’s luxurious edge conveys a deserved appreciation of mankind’s intelligence and innovation, moving into a future of previously unimaginable intellect.
