Pr o j e c t Br i e f Hi d d e n Te x t u r e s Hidden textures is a knit project exploring the way in which texture is created and shown through knitwear. Based around rock & minerals, looking at how they show textures through different & unusual structures and also colour. One rock is never the same as another, creating their own unique identity. The colours create texture through layers but also to the eye. Looking at a rocks surface and seeing the texture straight away through a varity of different ways. Exploring the boundaries in which knit structures & designs can be manipulated in to unusual shapes & textures. Experimenting with different thicknesses & textures of yarn & how this affects the structure & the way it looks. Researching designers that produce similar knitwear & also in to trends. Seeing what is out there and taking ideas from. Collecting Images of rocks & minerals to then start producing ideas & designs in a sketchbook. Experimenting with different materials & techniques to create my own designs. These then can be developed in to actual knits. For the textures to be seen, the colours need to be soft with hints of darker tones where the texture starts to show through the knits. Colour has to be right as this is what drawn person in and catches their eye.
