CLAIRE HARVEY STRUCTURES IN THE BODY THAT FORM IDENTITY...
CONCEPT STATEMENT In this collection is a serious of woven samples and sketchbook development from my most recent project. I have chosen to represent a hint of my four directions as they feed off each other and tell a story as a package. My idea was based on structures in the body that form identity, predominantly looking at Brain cells, DNA, and finger prints. My ideas escalated from a visit to the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. I started to look at various structures that formed in the Brain. I then developed these structures into patterns. I linked it with identity and developed this concept by looking into structures found in various friends’ finger prints. I also looked at shapes formed in the double helix. I have manipulated the structures into my woven designs by using fine yarns, and heavy yarns to create depth, contrasting colours, extra weft and pleating techniques.
