NATASHA FRANCK is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of EON Group—the market -leading digital identityplatform connecting billions of products to the Internet of Things (IoT) to drive intelligence and connectivity across fashion, apparel and retail. Before EON, Natasha led global design and development for smart cities and sustainable urbanism at Delos and Jonathan Rose Companies.
Before founding EON, I was in smart cities and urban planning, where I worked to advance healthy and sustainable cities through design, architecture, and technology. To design a circular city—a city without waste—was an impossibility. Billions of products entered into a city every day, and billions more hauled out as waste. Without any way to identify these products and materials after-use, these products—that were once resources—were now discarded as waste. I saw firsthand that without the ability to identify products and materials

Tell us about your background and how you came up with the idea for EON?
after point-of-sale—it would be impossible for any of these products to be managed efficiently and at scale through circular business models (i.e. resale, rental, subscription) and material regeneration processes (i.e. disassembly, recycling). This was the beginning of my journey to research and advance digital identification of products. EON came from this idea. We connect products to power circular economy.
We are the first digital identity platform that can power end-to-end connectivity for products. We developed the CircularID™ Standard to enable the global identification of products and materials in a circular economy. This is entirely new for the industry. Today, the industry’s perception of visibility/ transparency is only from farm to store—generally stopping at the point of sale. At EON, we extend connectivity beyond point-of-sale—making it possible to power new circular business models, connect to customers after-sale, and operationalize circular economy to enable material recapture. This end-to-end approach is crucial for systems change.
Did you partner with other technology resources to build your platform?
We have partnered with technology players like SAP, Microsoft and industry standards
JANUARY JANUARY 19 19 – 21 – 21
What is EON currently doing to stay at the forefront of sustainability and innovation?
organizations like GS1. Integrating with enterprise technology systems (e.g. ERP, PLM, etc.) and aligning with existing industry standards (e.g. GTIN, etc.) is crucial for enabling the creation of digital identification at scale. Our partnerships make it possible for us to complement the existing technology infrastructure of our brand and retail clients, and extend this intelligence and data beyond the point of sale and into a circular economy.
When we started this work four years ago, brands and retailers were not focused on technology as a driver for sustainability. The main focus of the industry was science and material innovation. Now, as brands and retailers are looking to power new business models, and scale systems-change required to operationalize circular economy—digital identification and product connectivity are coming to the forefront. It’s an incredibly exciting time for us.
How has the response been with brands?
The brands that we have partnered with have been visionary. Through their leadership and partnership—I believe we are nearing an adoption tipping point for digital identification across the industry. We are excited to power the vision of our brand partners—working
THE THE SPIRIT SPIRIT OF OFTHE THETIMES TIMES
How have you seen innovation in fashion mature over the years?
to create a digital foundation that enables them to meets the needs and values of their customers.
Our work flows across several departments — requiring engagement from many different stakeholders within a brand: IT, supply chain, marketing, new business models, circularity and transparency. Cross-department collaboration with enterprise clients can be challenging, but that also makes it exponentially more exciting and impactful—unlocking tremendous value for our clients, and representing true systems-change for the industry.
What advice or resources would you give to those entering the digital fashion landscape?
Keep on keeping on.
