WELCOME
Hello and welcome to a brand new season of wonderful shows here at the Corn Exchange.
As always, we have a huge variety of amazing performances and different events for you to come along and enjoy, including a truly wonderful visual spectacle as we play host to Luke Jerram’s magnificent Museum of the Moon presented in partnership with Visit Newbury this August, as well as our next fun-filled pantomime, BeautyandtheBeast!
This Autumn marks 30 years since the Corn Exchange reopened following its refurbishment in September 1993, and that has certainly given us pause to reflect on the extraordinary impact the Corn Exchange has made during that time; from spectacular outdoor events that are now part of our town’s identity, community productions that celebrate incredible local talent, the cultural activities we provide through our arts on prescription and Ageing Creatively programmes, projects like Contactless Creativity during the pandemic lockdowns and our award-winning pantomime - we’re incredibly proud of everything that’s been achieved.

We don’t rest though, and we are hugely excited that plans to redevelop the Old Library in Newbury town centre into a hub for wellbeing and creative activities are coming to fruition. Designs are in place, planning permission has been granted and in the coming months you will start to see work beginning on repairs to the outside of the building. We can’t wait to share all these details and plans with you, as there is a lot of fundraising to be done before the internal work can commence!
This will also be my final season at the Corn Exchange, as my family and I are moving away from the area. The Corn Exchange has been a huge part of my life for more than a decade, and I will miss the incredible team, volunteers, artists and audiences hugely – but with Jessica JhundooEvans taking over as Director, I know the Trust will continue to thrive under her wonderful leadership. Finally, I would like to acknowledge the incredible support we receive to make everything we do possible. We greatly appreciate the funding we receive from Greenham Trust and Arts Council England alongside numerous other grants from Trust and Foundations, as well as the generous donations made by members of our community, who use the Corn Exchange and believe in the value of the arts. Thank you.

UK artist Luke Jerram’s astonishing installation Museum of the Moon comes to the Corn Exchange this summer, presented in partnership with Visit Newbury who are the not for profit organisation behind Newbury BID (Business Improvement District), as part of their Festival of the Moon.
Visitors to this magical setting can experience the six metre, to-scale sculpture of the Moon as it is suspended in the Corn Exchange’s main auditorium. Museum of the Moon is a completely accurate facsimile of the moon, made using incredible NASA images, and featuring minute detail of the lunar surface so that visitors can discover the rarely-seen dark side of the moon. The internally-lit installation features a surround sound composition by BAFTA-winning composer Dan Jones for a stunning and profound art-meets-nature experience.
To accompany the exhibition, Visit Newbury are presenting Festival of the Moon, a festival with a wide range of moon related activities and events in-conjunction with local businesses. Find out more about the festival at www.visitnewbury.org.uk/festival-of-the-moon/
As part of the Festival of the Moon, there will also be a complementary programme of lunar-themed activities from the Corn Exchange; events include wellbeing sessions, talks, storytelling and films. Visit www.cornexchangenew.com/ moon-events for full details.

For the adults show, the wickedly talented cast will use a fan fiction title as their improv inspiration, whilst for the Kidz show, young witches and wizards can shout out fun suggestions along the way. Hilarity ensues as entirely new Potter adventures are magically improvised on the spot - with live musical accompaniment!

A brand new show from the award winning comedian and star of Taskmaster.
Bridget Christie is hot, but not in a good way. The 51 year old critically-acclaimed stand-up leaks, sweats, and thinks that Chris Rock is the same person as The Rock. The Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award winning comedian cannot ride the motorbike she bought to combat her mid-life crisis because of early osteoarthritis in her hips and RSI in her wrist; and wonders why there are so many films, made by men, about young women discovering their sexuality, but none about middle-aged women forgetting theirs. It’s a menopause laugh-a-minute with a confused, furious, sweaty lady who is annoyed by everything.
