Silent Auction Items:
On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff, welcome to Thacher’s annual Big Gymkhana Family Weekend and Parents Auction. My sincere thanks to the dozens of parents who donated many hours to bring this event together for the Thacher community. These volunteers exemplify the creativity and selflessness of the Thacher community. And on that note, let’s all give our particularly hearty thanks to Auction Chairs Wendy Bingham and Jenny Gregory and the entire Auction Committee for their extraordinary effort. As you know, the funds we raise from this auction help us balance our budget and make the Thacher education affordable to those who could not otherwise afford it. This is a big deal—and we truly appreciate everything you are all doing to help our School be the best that it can be. Sincerely,
Michael K. Mulligan Head of School

Emcee - J.P. Manoux CdeP 1987
J.P. Manoux CdeP 1987 has appeared in hundreds of films, TV shows, and commercials. His fans are an incredibly diverse lot. Teens know him best for his work on Phil of the Future and The Emperor’s New School. Their parents are more likely to recognize him from his two seasons as an emotionally cruel surgeon on ER. ComicCon types routinely geek out over his roles in Reno: 911!, Angel, Community, Euro-Trip, and Scary Movie 5. Every once in a while, somebody stops him in the street to say, “I loved you as the Green Grapes for Fruit of the Loom!” Almost never, however, is he appreciated for being a contestant on the game shows Wheel of Fortune, Teen Week, Family Feud, and Jeopardy! J.P. is currently between seasons of work on the Canadian sitcom Spun Out, starring Dave Foley. He has thoroughly enjoyed spending his hiatus as an Anacapa Scholar at Thacher, working in the Performing Arts Department.

Auction Rules All bids at Thacher’s 2014 Auction are binding, and there will be no refunds. Please read the following procedures carefully. All auction bidders must register and obtain a bidder number.
Live Auction Once commenced, the Live Auction will continue without interruption until all items have been sold. To enter a bid, the bidder signals by raising his or her bidding number. The auctioneer determines the winning bidder. The winning bidder (a) assumes full risk and responsibility for the item purchased; (b) must provide name, address, phone number, and bidding number to a spotter; and (c) must register a credit card before the end of the event on Saturday, May 10. In the event of any dispute between bidders, the Auctioneer shall have sole and final discretion to determine the successful bidder or to re-offer the item in dispute. In the event that an item or package becomes a collaborative effort the bidder accepts full responsibility for payment.
Silent Auction Bid sheets are displayed near each item. The initial bid for each item shall not be less than the minimum bid shown. Each succeeding bid must follow the increments shown on the bid sheet. The bidder prints name and bidder number next to the increment amount they choose to bid. All bids must be in round dollar amounts.

General Information
Bidding Groups
Neither The Thacher School nor the auctioneer assumes responsibility for the validity of any description, authenticity, or condition of any item offered or makes any warranty or guarantee. All property is sold “as is.” Values of merchandise donations shown on bid sheets, this catalog, or other Auction materials are estimates of fair market value, as stated by the donor or determined by the Auction Chair, and are not warranted by The Thacher School for tax or other purposes. All sales are final. The Thacher School is not liable for any refunds or exchanges. Most certificates and merchandise are not exchangeable for cash in part or in full and are non-transferable. Most items are not exchangeable once purchased. Hotel, air transportation, and restaurants are subject to availability. Unless otherwise specified, all certificates expire May 10, 2015. Items and services purchased are not intended to be sold or auctioned at a later date by the buyer. By making a purchase, the buyer waives any claims for liability against either The Thacher School or the donor of property or services. Neither the School nor the donor is responsible for any personal injuries or damage that may result from the use of property or services sold. The Thacher School reserves the right to (a) withdraw any item at any time before actual sale and (b) reject a bid from any bidder. Faculty services may be redeemed by current Thacher families only. With the exception of the Live Auction, the Development Office staff will act as final authority on any bidding disputes. Absentee bids must be confirmed with a credit card. The credit card of the highest bidder on a package will be charged the week after the auction. Conditions: Please note that some items (i.e. services, vacation homes, private dinners) come with conditions for their use, as noted in the catalog and in the materials that are with the items. Payment and pick-up must occur on Saturday at the times specified in the schedule. Payments may be made by cash, check, Visa, Discover, American Express, or Mastercard to the cashiers. Receipts will be mailed after check out. All items not claimed on Saturday will be mailed to the winning bidder at the bidder’s cost. Please note: Wine cannot be shipped. Bidders not present at the Auction at the time of bid notification authorize The Thacher School to bill the amount of their winning bids and any shipping charges to their pre-registered credit card.
What is a Bidding Group? Auction Bidding Groups (aka “syndicates”) are an opportunity for groups of friends and families to bid together on a LIVE Auction Item, thus sharing the cost of the winning bid. For example, the Joneses, Garcias, and Lings are interested in bidding on a dinner party for three couples. They can do so by having Mr. Jones bid on behalf of the group. If Mr. Jones is the winning bidder, the group then splits the bill among the three couples as they have agreed upon.

Bidding Group Guidelines To bid as a group, fill out and turn in a Bidding Group Form (see reverse) by the end of Friday evening. Include the item, lead bidder, additional bidders and the number of shares each bidder wishes to purchase. Bidding Groups must have a lead bidder. The number of people in a group may not exceed the number of people for which the item is offered as specified in the item description. The winning bidder of any item for which no Bidding Group Form is received by the close of the event will be invoiced for the full winning bid amount. All shares of a winning syndicate are equal. The amount or price of a share is determined by dividing the winning bid amount by the total number of shares. Forms must be turned in before the close of the auction on Friday night.

132. Ojai Vineyard Winery Tasting for 4 and Wines You must go here. John Anderson and the staff at the Ojai Vineyard tasting room do for wine what Neil DeGrasse Tyson is doing for science—filling your noggin with knowledge and leave you thirsting for more. In this case, that thirst can be satisfied in all ways. The Ojai Vineyard has been producing award-winning varietals since 1983. Your party of four can sip while you learn about the different ways microclimate and soil chemistry shape a wine’s flavor. Leave with great memories and two bottles of wine in a handsome wood gift box.
2011 Chardonnay, Puerta del Mar, Santa Barbary County - “Pretty, brisk, and very nicely done. Lemon peel, white flowers, and a hint of spices are supported by precise veins of acidity in a Chardonnay that shows a lovely combination of juiciness and energy.” - Antonio Galloni’s Vinous 2011 Pinot Noir, Fe Ciega, Santa Maria Valley - “Vibrant, intensely perfumed aromas of raspberry, cherry cola, and floral oils are accented with a note of white pepper. Sharply delineated and sweet in the mouth, with strong, floral raspberry liqueur and bitter cherry flavors. The juicy persistent finish builds in sweetness, with silky tannins and excellent depth of flavor.” - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar Restrictions: Must be 21 years of age to bid. 133. Private Tour & Tasting for 6 plus a Magnum of Cabernet Sauvignon
Located just off Napa’s famed Silverado Trail sits Bravante Vineyard. Dave Mosher’s personalized tours set this vineyard apart. They are generous, informative, and richly entertaining. The tour begins with a crisp, cool glass of Sauvignon Blanc and is followed by a walk through the Howell Mountain Estate property, accompanied by your guide’s excellent commentary. Explore the inner-workings of the winery and top off your visit with a tasting for six in Bravante’s specially designed aging cave. The Bravante 2005 Cabernet has the deep, bold flavors and structured tannins for which Howell Mountain is famous, but this wine also exhibits a velvety quality that allows it to be enjoyed earlier than many of its neighbors. This Cabernet is juicy with notes of cassis and black cherry, and brimming with deeper bramble fruits that mingle with signature cedar and cinnamon. The oak is subtle, and doesn’t overpower the fruits, just mingling enough to add a gentle backbone behind the fruit tannin. Enjoy with roast lamb or grilled porterhouse. Restrictions: Must be 21 years of age. Value: $400.00 Thanks to: Bravante Vineyard
