Global Accreditation Ensures Quality Healthcare in Thailand
www.ThailandMEDTourism.com
INTRODUCTION In addition to Thailand being one of the world’s premier tourist destinations, more and more visitors are being drawn to the Kingdom for another reason: the high quality and amazing prices of the country’s medical care. In fact, savvy medical tourists are receiving world-class treatment, then recuperating in one of Thailand’s gorgeous and relaxing holiday destinations, such as Bangkok, Koh Samui, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, or Pattaya.
Thailand prides itself on having a modern, state-of-the-art medical system and many hospitals have gone through the most rigorous accreditation and certification processes, passing with flying colors. In 2002, Thailand was the first Asian country to achieve the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, and today 30 hospitals in Thailand have received JCI accreditation.

As medical tourists become increasingly aware of Thailand’s international accreditations, high quality facilities and amenities, modern medical technologies, and incredible patient services, their numbers have been increasing accordingly. The last five years has seen these numbers double, with patients streaming in from the UK, the US, the Middle East (UAE, Kuwait, and Oman), Germany, Australia, Japan, and her fellow ASEAN countries. There are various types of accreditation and certification available to medical facilities, some international and others domestic. The most prestigious is Joint Commission International (JCI) and their more specialized Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC). Within Thailand, many Thai hospitals use Hospital Accreditation (HA), a national type of assessment and quality certification.

Differing from accreditation, Clinical Care Program Certification demonstrates excellence in the integration and coordination of care for treatment of a specific disease.

HA focuses a great deal on the personnel functions and skills in each particular hospital, including patient care, organization, and professional interaction between departments. A culture of selfassessment, quality standards, and constant improvement is cultivated and developed.
The HA program is a Thailandspecific accreditation awarded by The Institute of Hospital Quality Improvement & Accreditation of the Ministry of Public Health. Currently, there are over 350 hospitals in Thailand with HA certification, and this number is rapidly increasing throughout the country.
HOSPITAL ACCREDITATION (HA) Many Thai hospitals use Hospital Accreditation (HA), a four-stage process that combines self-assessment and peer assessment to gauge performance levels against established standards and identify methods of improvement.

TOP MEDICAL TOURISM DESTINATIONS IN THAILAND
CHIANG MAI Chiang Mai, the “Rose of the North,” is a city that many a visitor has fallen in love with, and a large number of them have decided to make their home. Travel + Leisure Magazine voted Chiang Mai – Thailand’s “second city” – the #2 city in the world in 2010. JCI-accredited Chiangmai Ram Hospital is one of the more affordable accredited hospitals in the country; this is because you get the finest treatment available at some of the best value in Thailand. The gorgeous northern mountains, along with the cooler northern weather, make Chiang Mai a dream destination for medical tourists.
BANGKOK What makes it great is a combination of its ancient traditions side by side with all the modern amenities you could ask for. Alongside Bangkok’s Buddhist temples are amazingly modern, hi-tech hospitals and medical centers that will amaze and delight you. The “City of Angels” has something for everyone, and with it comes the most amazing service at astonishing prices. This includes 21 JCI-accredited hospitals, including Bumrungrad International, Bangkok Hospital, Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital, Vejthani Hospital, and Yanhee Hospital.
KOH SAMUI Koh Samui is one of the most popular island paradises in the world, according to many surveys and rankings. Beautiful white sand beaches with clean, clear warm water next to lush tropical gardens and gentle ocean breezes await travelers to this ideal holiday destination. Bangkok Hospital Samui is also nearby, for those choosing to take advantage of this JCI-accredited hospital for any procedures or treatments they might need. Anantara Bophut Resort & Spa
HUA HIN Hua Hin has emerged as a firstclass destination in its own right over the past decade. A short 2 ½ hour’s drive from Bangkok, it has excellent golf courses, an amazing beach, its own floating markets, and – quite amazingly for a town its
size – the JCI-accredited Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin. This is no longer a sleepy fishing village, but an outstanding city by the sea to head where you can receive world-class medical treatment, and then relax in this tranquil town.

PHUKET Phuket may be just an island, but it is also a world complete unto itself, offering global travelers and medical tourists more than most can imagine – or handle – on a oneto two-week holiday. Thailand’s “Pearl of the South” seduces all who come within her orbit, and she has grown into one of the most famous and popular destinations anywhere in the world. Phuket is the perfect place for any number of procedures, treatments, or operations, and is home to JCI-accredited Bangkok Hospital Phuket.
PATTAYA Thailand’s favorite seaside resort, Pattaya, has something for both the experienced traveler and the casual tourist in search of a medical holiday destination. For those preferring a beach town over Bangkok, yet only a short drive away, Pattaya deserves investigation. There are a number of excellent hospitals in the area, including the JCI-accredited Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. When all’s said and done, it’s a great place to relax and recuperate.
