Buying your first designer handbag?

Here are 5 best tips you should know before making your purchase

T

he delineating factor that separates the everyday, all-purpose bag of all trades from its considerably more coveted stablemate typically comes down to quality as well as price. And where the latter is concerned, the divide can be pretty considerable especially when one takes into account how even entry-level luxury handbag brands can command anywhere from four to five figures on average, costing well above the average monthly income of a salaried employee.

3. Classic designer handbags endure That brings us to the next question: how do you identify a classic designer handbag? While there isn’t a quick and sure way to answer that question, a good way to determine whether a luxury handbag is a classic is generally by looking up how long the bag has been sold by the label.

4. Pick a bag of all trades If this is your first designer handbag, it’s probably a good idea to avoid one trick ponies and select a designer handbag brand that can be worn in multiple different ways. Versatility is key when you’re looking to maximise your cost-per-wear, after all.

1. The bag versus your wardrobe A luxury handbag can often be considered an expression of your personal sense of style. Hence when scouting down your first piece of designer label arm candy, it is absolutely essential that you consider how well it will integrate with the rest of your wardrobe as a whole.

2. Steer clear of trends Another good rule of thumb to be mindful of is to steer clear of trends when buying your first luxury handbag. As a business model, fashion operates on a cyclical schedule every year, offering a fresh selection of new designs at every juncture of seasonal change.

5. Materials matter Finally, be sure to pay close attention to how your designer handbag is made. When you’re paying for quality, you have all the right to expect nothing short of perfection. Be mindful to check for even stitching on the seam of your handbag, as well as clean glazing on the edges of each piece of leather.

“When signing off on your first luxury handbag purchase, you should always aim for classic, timeless shapes that are bound to see you through the decades”

The First Male Friend Of Gucci In Thailand “It seems that 25-year-old Gulf Kanawut can do anything he sets his mind to”

T

hese days, the style-savvy setknows Gulf Kanawut best as the young actor who was recently named as Gucci’s first ever Thai male friend of the house. Hi Gulf ! Some recent dramas that you have been involved in are You Are My Makeup Artist and The Heart of Taewaprom. How did you enjoy being a part of these productions? • Hi Thailand One. I had fun working on both shows. The two characters are very different. In You Are My Makeup Artist, the character I played was softer and gentler. In The Heart of Taewaprom, the character was flirtier and more like a playboy. In reality, I’m probably more similar to my character in The Heart of Taewaprom [laughs]. You’ve been in the entertainment industry full-time for about four years now. What are some of the most memorable moments for you so far? • The most memorable part for me is the beginning, when I started. That was the beginning of everything — my fan club, my first drama, and feeling proud of myself. After four years, there are more challenges than before because every piece of work that I do now is something new for me and something that I’ve never done before. 22

What type of roles would you like to try next? • I want to do something more challenging and play a more intense character — someone complicated who has a lot going on in his mind. What can we expect from Gulf for the rest of this year? • Music. I’m learning more about singing and I have a music-related project coming. “The most memorable part for me is the beginning, when i started. That was the beginning of everything — my fan club, my first drama, and feeling proud of myself.” What do you like most about singing? • I think that I’m a better rapper than singer. And I like hip-hop music. What are three of your favourite things to do when you’re not busy filming? • Sleep, sleep and sleep. When I have time, I put sleep first because I want to rest more. And playing with my cat. As a fast rising and relatively young actor, what are your dreams and goals? • I want to try different characters — new characters that are challenging. Any role and any style that speaks to me. I still have a lot of things to try.
