THAI-NICHI INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY STEPPING INTO A NEW ERA OF INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION A DECADE OF ACHIEVEMENT THROUGH MONODZUKURI

MESSAGE FROM

GENERAL PRAYUT CHAN-O-CHA Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology (TNI), I would like to convey goodwill to all the management, teachers, staff officers, alumni, and current students of the institution. The government gives priority to the development of the country’s educational system in order to generate quality Thai people and enable them to acquire full knowledge and reach their full potential consistent with our national virtues. The government has, therefore, adjusted curricula to reflect geosocial conditions by emphasizing sciences, technology, R&D, and innovation in all educational institutes which will, in turn, increase the skills and knowledge of our youths and children. Decentralization of administrative power offers local educational institutes and administrative organizations the opportunity to act as a juristic person and achieve flexible independent management. I would like to commend TNI for its consistent development of education at higher education level and its output of quality, skillful graduates to feed our labour markets for the past 10 years and continuing. Indeed, TNI is a role model for educational support in response to the country’s strategic development. On this occasion, I would like to invoke the triple gems and holy objects of the universe and munificence of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun to bless all of the management, teachers, officers, alumni and current students of TNI. I wish you all happiness, prosperity, and strength of body and mind so you may cooperate in the development of Thai education at the highest international level. General Prayut Chan-o-cha Prime Minister (Unofficial Translation)

HISTORY OF TNI Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology (TNI) was established by the Technology Promotion Association (Thailand-Japan) (TPA) whose mission is to disseminate knowledge to Thai personnel for the economic and industrial prosperity of Thailand.

02

THAI-NICHI INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

In 2007, TNI officially opened the door for students in undergraduate and graduate programs in the innovative learning style of MONODZUKURI (Dedication, Creativity and Development) with the ultimate philosophy “to develop knowledge and enrich industry so as to improve the economy and society”. Many bachelor’s and master’s degree programs are offered for students in the fields of engineering, information technology, and management, to meet the needs for skilled employees in business and industrial sectors in Thailand and overseas. Employment is guaranteed after graduation at TNI with high possibility to work with Thai companies, joint-venture companies and Japanese companies both in Thailand and Japan. While studying in the final year, students are offered opportunities to intern at allied companies that are their potential employers after graduation.

MESSAGE FROM

Mr. SHINZO ABE Prime Minister of Japan

I am immensely pleased that Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology (TNI) is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. TNI is a very special institute for me. When TNI was established, I was asked to write the institute’s Japanese name which I delivered with pleasure and prayed for friendship and goodwill between Japan and Thailand and the development of the institute. When I officially visited Thailand as Prime Minister in January 2013, I visited TNI for the third time and donated books and planted a memorial tree. Every time I visit, I take delight in seeing how small trees have grown up vigorously and the campus is full of students. There are also certain aspects that have not changed since TNI started its journey, namely the students with their earnestness and gentle smiles, instructors with deep understanding of Japan, and support from Japanese companies operating in Thailand. With the concept of Japanese-style “monodzukuri” championed by TNI, every year, lots of talented students graduate from TNI and over half of them are then employed by Japanese companies. These graduates from TNI will certainly be indispensable in promoting the Japanese-style “monodzukuri” to the global stage.

As the connections within the Asian region are strengthening and the global economic cooperation is expanding, Thai industry, as the hub of manufacturing and logistics for the Mekong Subregion and ASEAN, needs to transform itself to produce higher value-added products and enhance its competitiveness in the global market. In order to achieve these goals, it is essential to strengthen the foundations of industrial technology and to develop human capacity that can deal with advanced technologies. In this context, I am confident that the role TNI plays will become increasingly important. This year marks the milestone 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Thailand. To conclude my message, I wish TNI success and prosperity and I hope that TNI will continue to play an important role as a bridge between Japan and Thailand and further contribute to the regional development by extending the same to its neighboring countries. Mr. Shinzo Abe Prime Minister

TNI Founder TNI was founded by the Technology Promotion Association (Thailand-Japan) (TPA), in September 2006 and officially opened on 2 August 2007. TPA was founded in 1973 by a group of well-wishers who used to study or receive training in Japan headed by Mr. Sommai Hoontrakul, assisted by Japanese society led by Mr. Goichi Hozumi. Mr. Sommai Hoontrakul later on became Minister of Finance and contributed to the economic cooperation between Thailand and Japan over many decades. Mr. Goichi Hozumi was then the President of the Japan-Thailand Economic Cooperation Society (JTECS), a sister association of TPA, established to assist TPA in carrying out its industrial human resource development mission.

K

raikhun Karnjanaprapas wanted to be an engineer since he was in high school. He found out about TNI from his senior who came back to visit his school and introduced him to TNI. This inspired him to learn about Japanese advance technology and he was very happy when he was granted a TNI Scholarship. He did not hesitate to have TNI his first choice although he had been accepted by other prestigious government universities at the same time. He saw that there were lots of opportunities for student exchange programs at TNI as well as work opportunities after graduation. When he was a fourth year student, he participated in the Osaka Prefecture University’s Internship Program in Sakai City which provided him the class at OPU plus internship in a Japanese company in Sakai City for six months. He said learning Japanese and Catia at TNI were useful in his work. Currently, he is undergoing trainings in operation design at Shiroki Corporation Toyokawa Plant in Nagoya. The training will be over this November and he will come back and work at Shiroki Asia Co., Ltd. in design and development. He said his company is small and composed of three departments: Design, Logistics, and Sales. However, he is confident that the business is expanding and continuing to move forward so he can develop his career path going forward. “TNI is a place of great opportunities,” he said. “TNI juniors should study hard in order to grab these chances. I plan to study for my Master of Business Japanese Program (MBJ) at TNI and pay attention while continuing my work at Shiroki Company.”
