Synopsis
Director’s Biography
Apichatpong Weerasethakul Born in Bangkok, Apichatpong Weerasethakul grew up in Khon Kaen in north-eastern Thailand. He began making films and video shorts in 1994 and completed his first feature, MYSTERIOUS OBJECT AT NOON in 2000. He is the first and the only Thai director who has films in competition at major festivals such as Cannes and Venice Film Festivals. His film TROPICAL MALADY won the Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival in 2014 and his UNCLE BOONMEE WHO CAN RECALL HIS PAST LIVES won the prestigious Palme d’Or in 2010. His latest film CEMETERY OF SPLENDOR was screened in Un Certain Regard section of Cannes Film Festival in 2015.
A country hospital plays home to a group of soldiers who have fallen into a strange, unending sleep. When a middleaged volunteer and a young medium manage to make psychic contact with the slumbering soldiers, they trace the men’s enigmatic affliction to the ancient archaeological site that lies beneath the clinic. Gorgeous, mysterious and gently sublime fusion of history, memory, humorous, Cemetery of Splendor is a mysticism and socio-political allegory.
